ABSOLUTELY the GOP are licking their chops over escalating gas prices! They're the worst of humanity walking, to be cheerful over news that is breaking the pocketbooks of every day Americans, instead of working on solutions, i.e. pursuing clean energy alternatives and thereby, creating JOBS!
Obama 2012.
You got it, Feed- they will spin this so that it's ALL Obama's fault, as if he has control of the entire world's oil supply. Let them blame him, they are pretty much reduced to cartoon characters as it is!
They are not only licking their chops, their pals are increasing these prices. They have to make Obama look bad some way, cause they can't find any dirt on him. They don't care how it hurts the people in this country.
Exactly ! This hike in gas prices is about as ' orchestrated ' as any and ALL gas crises we have had over the decades . . . as phoney as the Oil Robber Barons and their Wall Street Puppets all are !! They constantly prove that they LIVE OFF of America . . . instead of LIVING IN America ! !
David: I agree they're cartoon characters but there's nothing funny about the grip they have on all the discussions and prevention of progress towards solutions for our country.
http://video.msnbc.msn.com/martin-bashir/46502677#46502677 == MUST WATCH AND LISTEN AGAIN = For Those Who Have Not Seen This !!!!!!
I'm currently on a live phone conference with the League of Conservation Voters/Bill McKibben re: the Keystone XL pipeline and the info coming out is just astounding. Our *voices* matter more than anything, against all the big money being thrown at lobbyists against our interests. Earlier today, I was watching Martin Bashir/Bashir Live and he spotlighted how it was actually Newt Gingrich as Speaker of the House, added a rider which prohibited Dept of Transportation increasing the fuel efficiency standards, "year after year after year".

Republicans keep giving him sass,
They truly show they have no class.
They'll arrange for a jump
Of the price at the pump,
But they'll prove their brand's run out of gas!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44258842#VpFlash == MUST WATCH This One ALSO !!!!!!!! Voter Fraud - 2 X-Tra Votes For Members Who Were NOT There !!!!!!
The GOP Are full of hot air and blowing gas out there back side ! They have a war against us on all fronts and we need to send these thieving idiots packing ! I am sick of them !
Pam = A-Freakin-MEN !!!!!!!! THEY Are Raping US AMERICANS !!!!!!! These ARE There PLANS !!!
Not only are they using this phony crisis to score political points against President Obama, they are lining their pockets with our money.
i dont just think they are licking their chops ...as some of the 1% are in the oil business i wonder if a little holding back of oil is going on to increase prices...just my thoughts needs to be investigated
Gas is 6 bucks in some parts of Florida. It was 1.80 when Obama took office. The price will continue higher because it helps Obama's green energy pipe dream. I think I'll do my share and buy a $41,000 Chevy Volt. A bargain!!!!!
Yes these deceitful liars are licking their chops. Click on MD/MI's link to see WHY the bas$#%^& are drooling while blaming Obama for the price of gas!!! #1.5
Before you lick your chops, Gerry Touche, click that link. #1.5.
Now that the repub/tparty have created chaos with women, they're on to another area. Unfortunately, most Americans don't know or understand that oil is priced by the world market, speculators. What we can do to lower gas prices is go after the subsidies granted to oil companies by Congress. Write to Congress to cut oil subsidies.
While you're at it, did you know that the oil/gas companies are the only businesses that dump their garbage into our water, air and ground? Even the small Mom & Pop restaurants have to pay haulers to remove their garbage, but not the oil/gas companies. They cover up their toxic wastes with good land, build dams to hold their toxic water that eventually seep into streams and rivers. Congress must do something on that score too. It'll be so good to get rid of the many obstructionist repub/tparty in the House.
Where in Florida (or anywhere else in America) is gas $6 a gallon? Just last night, CBS News reported that the most expensive gas in America is in Hawaii, where it's $4.44 a gallon, so I'm sorry I have to throw down a bullsh@t flag on that one, Gerry.
The rise in gasoline and diesel prices can be traced directly to Republican rhetoric.
Gasoline is going to go over $5/gallon because of Santorum/Romney, and if they don't shut the f**k up it is going to go over $6/gallon.
News services need to cover the following sequence of news events in order to put the fuel crisis into proper perspective.
Iran claims to have the ability to strike the US with missiles and is definitely going to develop nuclear weapons in response to statements by every Republican stating that they are going to attack Iran if they get elected.
And Iran has specifically stated that they are going to strike first.
The entire Iranian population despises the US because we killed the first Shah so we could rob their oil, and that hatred is only going to get worse if the US kills more Iranians in order to rob more oil.
Republicans are going to start World War III if any of them get elected in 2013.
@TMom and MsT
I agree.... the Repugs are very happy about this, as they have been for the slow economic recovery and high unemployment numbers... all of which they are behind preventing any improvement from being made.
Now the rise in gas prices are a result of the problems in the Middle East as usual, but more the result of gambling in the futures market by Wall Street. This story was broken right here on the Ed show about this time last year... and also the solution.... the committee who is responsible for regulating that gambling on futures by Wall Street.
Of course, currently that committee is dominated by a GOP majority... who won't do anything to regulate Wall Street. Those committee members need to be replaced by Democrats or Independents appointed by President Obama who will DO THEIR JOB!
Gary Touche . . . everyone is welcome to comment here and make blog posts . . . including you . . . but you must prepare yourself to have your blinders removed and to be woken up to the Robber Baron. Right-Wing, Racist, Republicon, Dranconian agenda here . . .
Enjoy !!
@TMom, MsT, Y DScully,
Not only are the Republicans happy about this - they are doing it on purpose.
The stuff I looked up is easily available to anyone familiar with foreign policy.
I keep up with this topic because I get oil royalties.
There is no doubt whatsoever that the Republicans KNOW that every statement they make about bombing Iran is going to drive up fuel prices.
And the Republicans THINK nobody is going to catch them playing that game and lying about it.
There was allot of oil but it all went down in the Obama fault Line!
Exactly TMom, DScully. Crackehead and XXXOOO ! !!
The GOP are all about distraction instead of just getting down to work. I'm hoping the events of today in the House, don't get obliterated by the GOP railing on gas prices, instead of addressing the mess they started re: contraception and women's rights. (They don't like where it's headed so they're conjuring up/working their next distraction; gas prices.)
In case you missed Georgetown Law Center student Sandra Fluke testifying before the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee on women's health and contraception, here's the link:
http://www.c-span.org/Events/Democrats-Hold-Hearing-on-Contraceptives-Womens-Health/10737428508-1/
It's really important to pass this link/video on in social media, etc. so women's voices are heard/not squashed by those dictating the discussion. It's up to us to make sure Catholic, Republican, etc. women SEE/HEAR what is being fought for through the testimony of Sandra Fluke, the only woman now on record during these hearings.
Thank you for the link Feed ! I will pass it on !
Hey C.A. - WE do not get OIL from IRAN . Its JUST the SPECULATORS , that OUR OIL is HIGHER !!! And x.o. The FUEL goes in OUR TANKS ! We STILL have ALOT of OIL STORED !
The
TOYBB, We cannot emphasize that enough. WE DO NOT GET OIL FROM IRAN. It's a misleading GOP tactic to make people think that.
http://video.msnbc.msn.com/martin-bashir/46502677/#46502677
Hey Newt, we gotcha!
@Crackhead Awards
I gt oil royalties as well. It does have a tendency to keep one 'well informed'.
We get the vast majority of our oil from Texas - these people would love it if the price goes up, some as a matter of fact will withold pumping until the price per barrel is above a certain dollar level.
We also get our oil from Mexico and Canada and I might add that demand is down so the price hike is all 'speculation' nothing more.

Since one of the main topics of today seems to be the rise in gas prices and of course we know that the Repugs are now using this subject as a talking point for why they should be elected. Of course they have to tell their usual pack of lies to do it among which was the price of gas when GW Moron was running things.
I decided to do some research on the subject of gas prices over the last year of "GW Moron's Amazing Administration and other fantastic and unbelievable tales of the GOP". Here are the stats I found about gas prices across the country over the course of 2008, starting in Feb 2008 to Nov 2008 around the time of the election. The last set of stats are the prices for Jan 2009, right after President Obama was inaugurated.

@Crackhead and Ethelouise
Hey... how can I get oil royalties? I am descended from people of the Cherokee Nation or do you have to belong to a particular tribe from a particular area of the country?
Thanks, DScully, good to see you. We need to expose the rotters for the lying pieces of crap they are.
GREAT posts y'all! Sorry I've been absent so long but was captivated by Rachel Maddow then had to make/eat my first meal of the day. :P
David: Excellent poem, once again. <3
Crackhead: Thanks for the great posts and links. I was thinking the same thing DScully expressed! Wish I had me some of them thar oil royalties!
MsT: You're welcome and, Thank YOU! I appreciate you spreading the word, (and, anybody else who is doing so!).
DScully: I can't tell you how much I appreciate your post of the gas prices and all the work you put into the research. I love great data and just c/p'd the data for future use/reference in my blog and posts. Thanks much! (Do you have that posted in your own website/blog? I could just hyperlink to your page.)
India: Nice to see you! You *go* girl!
@FeedTheUSA
I thought this was an interesting article (and you might also), which I ran across in my research into gas prices under Dubya.
In his State of the Union Address in January 2007, President Bush revealed a new and startling plan to double the Strategic Petroleum Reserve: Read the ramifications of this unwise move from the New York Times editorial.
How Bush Pushed Gasoline Prices Sky High
http://www.yuricareport.com/Energy/How%20Did%20Oil%20Prices%20Get%20so%20High.htm
Crack head.......My husband established the dept. of Oil and Gas Royalties and Revenue Department here in New Mexico. He always declares that only at those at the top are making money and they are extremely dishonest when it comes to paying their royalties and have to be monitor at all time. Gas prices are being manipulated.
I have a step son who is consulting in Virginia and Penn. in a very large Oil play and they are drilling wells right and left. So don't tell me there is not enough oil and that they are not robbing the American Public.
DScully-2892243,
I didn't know. Welcome.
Ask around your family and contact these people.
Mine was inherited. See if you can locate marriage records and tribal documentation from one of your ancestors (birth certificates did not exist in Oklahoma until 1940). Churches maintained family records before birth certificates became common so you might want to ask which churches family members attended. You are looking for someone born in Oklahoma before 1888 (possibly north Texas).
Some royalties come from oil production on federal land.
Cherokee are one of the "5 civilized tribes". Many were literate and owned property (surveyed townships and sections). Mineral rights may have been been split from surface rights if tribe members were forcibly moved (federal law suits).
I fall in the second category (private land).
Cherokee land in Georgia, the Carolinas, and part of Tennessee was stolen when they underwent the death-march to the southern half of the Oklahoma Territory under Andrew Jackson. Most native americans joined the confederate states to escape the genocide. Native Americans land was stolen again to provide land for civil war veterans starting in 1889 as revenge for joining the confederacy. Oklahoma became a state in 1907. It was quasi-legal to murder indians and confiscate their land until the 1920s when citizenship was granted.
Court decisions sometimes allocate royalties from areas where land was confiscated.
DScully: You are just full of great information tonight! (And, I suspect every day.)
I just finished reading both pieces and had no idea! This is stuff that needs to be brought to the attention of Ed and/or media as a whole! Between all the info posted here tonight and what I heard in that earlier teleconference re: the Keystone XL pipeline, I'm really ready to launch a campaign into the hypocrisy of the GOP and incredible amounts of money spent on lobbyists to keep the oil execs happy and America dummy-ed down about what all they are doing to us, from every direction. They're just down-right short-sighted greedy bastards.
@Thankful Mom-3182614,
The US and most of Europe buys no oil from Iran, but they make up about 5% of world production capacity. When world production drops, countries like Canada and Mexico raise their prices.
This was cut off suddenly about a month ago, but Pres. Obama has been working frantically with BOEMRE to increase domestic production. Probably one of the reasons for the gulf oil disaster and the debate about Canadian oil sands.
Energy companies use software that predicts future commodity prices and costs to set pump prices. News events, price trends, politics, and other factors are fed into something that behaves like a Kahlman Filter.
This is one one of the things used by an executive panel that sets pump prices for chains. Private stations subscribe to a service. This is called futures trading.
great job love your energy an a very caring AMERCIAN
@FeedTheUSA, Lucci, Crackhead, TMom, India
Just found, or to be honest, stumbled on this report while investigating something else! We definately need to keep Occupying those jokers on Wall Street!
Gas Prices: Wall Street at Fault?
Financial regulator says big banks gambling on oil are to blame.
http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/gas-prices-wall-street-fault-15779498
@Crackhead
Thanks for the info. At this point, I only know that my Cherokee predecessors lived in Raccoon Co. (I think) Kentucky at one point (mid to late 1800s). But I don't know where they were from before that.
I've done some checking on Indian Census roles, etc years ago, but I have to do some more research for records, if I can find them.
@Crackhead Awards (#1.17), RE:
Much of the above quote would be more relevant to the period of time when Ayatollah Khomeini instigated the Islamic Revolution and the Hostage Crisis back in 1979. But the Children of the Revolution know to blame the chain of dictatorial clerics from Khomeini through (currently) Khameini and associated Clerics as being more responsible for their plight now (from their parents' & grandparents' generations).
[Back in 1979 - 81, while I was in the US Navy Submarine Service, I had the pleasure of meeting quite a few Iranian Sailors who were sent to the Submarine Base at Groton, CT for training on how to operate diesel-powered submarines that the US sold to Iran while the Shah was still in power. Most of those who happened to be still in the US after the Shah was deposed from power opted to stay in the US rather than risking a return back to Iran. So, I knew - even before the Hostage Crisis was over - that the aftermath of that Revolution would leave much to be desired by the average Iranian, As surely as I knew that when the end of the Hostage Crisis just happened to coincide with Reagan's inauguration as President (in 1981), that there had to have been some underhanded negotiations between Reagan's Presidential Election Campaign and Iranian Revolutionaries close to Khomeini (which came to light during the Iran-Contra hearings, linked to Bill Casey, previously a CIA Director, but all too conveniently a stroke victim who know longer knew what his role had been, so the whole truth of those negotiations will never be known).
In the aftermath of Iran's sham elections, I've had numerous discussions with Iranian-Americans who have confirmed that most Iranians would like to be free to live more Westernized lifestyles, that America is not the Great Satan, yet the situation is such that America must not undertake the role of Emancipator, that even covert aid is a risk. Ironically, the wholly unjustified invasion of Iraq made what would have already been a very difficult task all that much more difficult, as Saddam Hussein is no longer available to interfere with Iran. As Vice President, Cheney's desire to believe in WMDs and Al-Qaeda being in Iraq pre-9/11, along with his then-influence on what Bush-43, as Commander-in-Chief, would aim for, did as much (if not more) damage to US National Security Interests than anyone else, since WWII (Rosenbergs act of treason providing the USSR with info that would allow for obtaining nuclear weapons without having to do their own research).]
C A, Thank you I found your post very interesting ( 1.35 ) I have bee doing my ancestry research and have allot of Indian ancestors. On my Dads Side especially. So far have traced back to Pocahontas. They have allot of records and may be of great help to people to establish Cherokee Indian ancestry. It was wonderful to see pictures of so long ago. I also have Shawnee ancestors as well. I think would be amazing to meet some of my native ancestors one day. What happen to the native Americans was the first genocide to happen here and the second with the slaves.
Mr Crackhead, what percent of the daily crude oil price gets paid in royalties.
My guess would be "a lot less"
I have 2 new ones pumping in North Dakota from which I have yet to get a
division order. They are in "confidential status". Oil might get to $105.00 a barrel, but how much gets paid in royalties. Do you have a certain daily bulletin
that you watch.? Sorry, my question is not very relevant to Ed's question of
the day. I think these high costs of gas are tied directly to the Keystone pipeline and the loss of subsidies to the oil industry.
DSully, Great investigative work! Stats don't lie! They are using gas to derail the recovery and blame OBAMA. We need to be in there face and scream rape at the gas tank !!! We the people can do something! Republican politics and WALL Street think there in the drivers seat ! NO WAY IN HELL !!!!!! (post1.29 )
Dee in Des Moine,
The production company that drills/develops is entitled to recover costs from oil sales before royalties are distributed/awarded (investor payback).
Most oil development investors participate in something called a private placement memorandum (PPM). This is similar to stocks traded on wall street, except that the company cannot advertise, hence the "private" designation (aka: multi-level marketing). Most oil development in the Dakota/Nebraska falls into this category. These are often called "wildcat" companies. Most wildcatters sell to larger production companies after development is complete.
Wildcat developers are very different from production companies like Dutch Petroleum (Shell), British Petroleum, and 76. The wildcatter may sell the well to a production company, or the wildcatter may contract with refineries, truckers, or pipe fitters to transport/sell the oil directly. Some developed wells are capped for years before production begins. Unprofitable wells remain idle if too far from refinery for economical transport. Capped wells become viable when oil prices rise.
The developer/producer company should be willing to share information with you.
If you know the name development company, you should be able to locate the company contact information on the Secretary of State web site. This should show a person's name, address, and telephone number. The company should be willing to send a copy of the lease agreement if operating on land where you have a vested interest (deed or equivalent).
If development is taking place on land where mineral rights are shared, you may need to contact the county recorders office to identify the other owner(s) to identify the development company.
Mineral rights are often split from surface rights in southern, midwestern, and northern states. Mineral rights are shared/divided on the same section In Oklahoma and Texas (a square plot of land 1 mile on each side).
Capped wells are sometimes discounted. The well may become viable if investors are payed less than promised on the PPM. This involves several property owners ganging up and threatening the wildcatter before going to court (you may need a CPA for this).
It is good to avoid attorneys because they may wish to share royalty fees indefinitely after the judgement. That can be avoided with up-front payment. You need to keep track of billing hours, and you need to be careful about the attorney-client agreement (something the CPA can help with).
@CosmicChuck - great post.
It seems someone has found another reason for rising gas prices - old refineries are becoming obsolete and shutting down...
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/angry-about-high-gas-prices--blame-shuttered-oil-refineries.html
Of Course the GOP is licking their chops they will do anything to bring down this president and now they are going rise gas prices so they can blame it on Obama These GOP clowns are freaking idiots Obama 2012
Do they really believe that anyone over 25 years of age does not remember EVERY time that Wall Street, The Oil Robber Barons and the Republicon liars have done this to us in Americans with gas prices ? . . . They would roll over all of us with military tanks if it would make them a 50 cent profit !
MsT, That Martin Bashir link which I saw today and which Md/MI posted for me was such an eye opener. It was astounding to me how they can continue to lie with a straight face, like Newt last night at the debate. Ed Markey showed him up for the liar he is and you know that all of the GOP cronies of Newt knew how they were manipulating gas and oil prices and knew the keystone pipeline was, for the GOP, an EXPORTING pipeline! They have no shame.
They get rich on our hardships and then have the gall to refuse to raise a billionaire's taxes. They are monsters. MONSTERS.
Right on India . . . I love that we are allowed after a point of being on this blog to post links . . . they are a critical form of passing vital and interesting information on . . . here and in our personal email, text, twitter accounts etc !
They are lying, evil monsters . . . don't know how they sleep at night !
David
Apology accepted.
The Koch brothers have their fingers in at every level of the oil business.
Buying,selling,transporting,storing,refining. The fox is in the hen house.
Dee... I strongly suspect that the fox is in all of the hen houses, not just oil or the Koch bros. The fox has been guarding DC for a very long time, too. That's why the 1% is doing so well.
@ India, you are surely correct. We need to be more vigilante in identifying them.
They change their looks sometimes, like last night on my way home at 10:00.
We were having a good snow falling. We have a lot of red fox running around at
that time of night. You can always tell them by their tail sticking straight out. Last
night one ran across the road, but he was almost black. Wasn't sure if it was a
fox or what. Same with the ones running around Washington and in and out of
politics.
Dee.....whole lotta foxes runnin round!! LOL
Foxes in sheep's clothing.
I'm glad someone is pointing out the obvious, that the proposed Keystone pipeline goes to the Gulf Coast - this is not a coincidence. We hear a lot that "Oil is a fungible commodity." Oil companies are multi-national. There is no "American" oil market; oil is a world market, and that's where its price is set. Absent impenetrable trade barriers - which most Repubs would oppose - this won't change. We will never drill ourselves into "energy independence." See Rachel's truly brilliant piece on this from June 2010 here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0--Q9_KmAY
Yes, of course. They do not have any "real" plans/solutions so they will commence pandering to their base with as many lies and silly "bumper sticker" slogans" as possible.
How ironic that gas prices are rising at such a rapid rate when the nation is awash in gasoline, so much so that the excess is being exported (#1 export in 2011). Perhaps the energy companies need more money to donate to SuperPACs in order to buy our elections.
Bingo!!
They sure the hell not getting my VOTE !!!!!!!
@lovepmc, Joy and Ted
Of course... the oil companies are donating to the Superpacs to get one of these Repug clowns elected, and passing the costs onto us.
Naw, they're still trying to find ways to probe women's nether regions. Apparently, no
republican has seen one.
Touché!
Repubs sure seem to be focused on women's private parts. Nothing unusual, they are well known for their interest in women....other than their wives.
Somebody needs to tell the Grand Old Party that the PARTY'S OVER!
No more lies, no more bullying!!! Obama 2012
We have had enough of this BS.
That's why they're against restrictions for Viagra.... not only it's plain and simple discrimination, it's what THEY NEED! Imagine McConnell without viagra, he could work at a wax museum, immobile, half dead!
OPEN RANGE - If not TOTALLY dead,good news if he does die off.
Careful, there, Ted... Death wishing is a no-no on the vine...
@Open Range
Believe me... I don't want to imagine McConnell WITH VIAGRA! That image mind melt my brain. Ewwwww....
I'm still voting for Barack Obama in November 2012 regardless of the price of gas.....
Where I live it's still $2.96 for regular unleaded...
Me, as well.......it just increases my distrust of the reps.
We will be singing the "Blues" alright, when the Democrats blue into DC. No red righties.
Nothing can make me NOT vote for him in November. Can't stand the Repugs. It's $3.69 a gal here in Northwest Indiana. I don't understand how there can be that much of a price difference in different regions. Can someone explain?
They charge what they think that region can bear. It would probably be higher on the East and West coasts big cities because they generally have a high cost of living. Our gas prices are comparative with yours Lori, as most of the Midwest is.
I guess I shouldn't complain. I know 35 miles away in Chicago it's probably over $4.00 by now.
Yes, we're not stupid. It's clear that the repubs are in the hip pocket of the oil companies. Big oil means big tips for repubs.
I wouldn't be surprised if the rising price of gas was all cooked up behind closed doors. Repubs have tried everything else to grab power. Now they have enlisted their oil buddies. Wall Street wants more money, too.
Lori-3161658,
Fuel production and refining is regional.
Most of the northern states produce their own oil or they import from Canada (our largest supplier). This makes those states somewhat immune to changes in foreign oil prices.
Much of the east coast gets oil from a combination of Canada, Mexico, and domestic production. Some oil in imported from foreign countries.
The west coast gets a huge amount of oil from the middle east (especially southern California). Our gasoline rose from $3.5/gallon a few weeks ago to about $4.50/gallon today (about 50 cents/week for the last 2 weeks in a row).
Thanks all. They got us...........don't they. Suckers.
So where does Texas get theirs? And why is their gas cheaper than mine when I live just 10 miles from a BP Refinery. I'm just trying to understand this.
Texas drills, produces, and refines about 1/3 of domestic oil.
States near the Mississippi river have salt-domes from dried up sea water that cap the top of ancient rain forests. Hydrocarbons from the ancient rain forest bake at high temperature deep under the surface of the earth and rise toward the surface as oil and natural gas. This is trapped under the layer of salt.
Geologists use sound to locate folds in the salt layer that point toward the surface (synclines). This kind of rock formation concentrates the oil and gas. The oil and gas fills the pores of sandstone and limestone. Rock is fractured using an explosive charge with liquid to release the oil and gas (fracking). This is called production.
Production oil is typically shipped to the refinery using a pipeline. Small wells may be serviced periodically by a truck that carries the oil to a refinery. Most foreign oil from Mexico and Canada arrives by pipe. Some foreign oil arrives by tanker. Different kinds of fuel are transported by pipeline using a "pig", which is a plug like a cork that separates different liquids as they ride down the pipeline to the next pumping station.
Production oil is "baked" with a catalyst to change the chemical composition. The resulting liquid is distilled in a condensation, which is called "cracking". This separates heavy products, like diesel, from lighter products, like gasoline. This is called refinement. Natural gas is dried and cooled to a low temperature using heat exchangers that remove water and contaminants (propane, butane, ...).
The refined product is brought by truck to gasoline stations. Large consumers, like international airports, may have a dedicated pipeline from the refinery.
Crackhead~ Are you an avid reader or do you have firsthand knowledge of which you speak? LOL Whichever it is, it sounds good!
So Texas citizens get a break? Because they have more oil drilling? So BP in my region is screwing me? I'll reread this tomorrow and try to understand. :)
Nice.....It would be great 2 see the prices come down.....then the KKK Clowns can really Surrender
@Crackhead
Let's hope we don't go to war with Canada anytime soon. But I'm surprised the Repugs haven't suggested invading and taking over their oil fields. I mean... how difficult would that be? They're a friendly bunch.
Toyota #6 I'm voting for Obama in Nov., too. I'll vote for him if gas is ten dollars a gallon.
I'll vote for him if he's an atheist, an alien, a Muslim, a vampire, a terrorist, a Kenyan, or a serial killer. The only way I won't vote for him is if he becomes a Republican. I wouldn't stoop THAT LOW!
There is outstanding exhibits at this location
My father worked in the industry.
Mostly caused by Wall Street greed. 35% a cost of crude according to oil CEO's. Without them gas would be $2.00 a gallon.
In the past, there has been no reason for all these pricing games on gasoline. The insanity party of the gop is just dealing from the bottom of the deck again.
THANKFUL MOM - It sounds more like they're stacking the deck if anything.
You can just about figure that anything wrong or outrageous or underhanded has Republicans behind it. They don't realize we're smart enough to figure that out. And we are going to keep figuring it out right into the voting booth.
Thank you MJB--go Iowa!! We need you there!
@Thankful Mom
Great to see you. One of the things the repulblicans want us to 'forget' is that Bush was an 'oil man' so was Cheney - that's one of the reasons why they kept their energy policies 'secret'. I know that all the fox trolls will stop saying that we should stop 'blaming' Bush but really this is all his fault.
One thing's for sure, the GOP doesn't give a damn about people suffering! They only care about themselves, power, so they can serve their rich billionaire owners. The people are just a necessary inconvenience for them.
Wanna blame others for the gas prices? Start with that strange guy in Iran, he's the one causing this!
Agree -
Republicans are actually causing the problem on purpose and lying about it.
I'm currently on a telehall conference call with the League of Conservation Voters and Bill Kibbon regarding the Keystone pipeline. The GOP will use the rising prices to shove the pipeline again. I also read the other day that some senators - Vitter, are trying to attach the pipeline to the emergency oil supply
Now why would that not be surprising?
Doesn't his diaper need changing? Something smells...
isnt the pipeline gas going to China, not to us?
FredC~ That's what I understood it to be. We won't get anything from it but the headaches. Water pollution, ground poisoning, spills that they can't figure out how to clean up, and for what? Oil we will never see and huge profits for the big oil fatcats. The tar sands that go through the pipes is the consistency of peanut butter and it's really nasty stuff, according to a guy that's worked with it before. He's against it running through America.
@MJB
And don't forget we will also be getting ALL OF THOSE ALMOST 2 - 3 thousand jobs... maybe. You know... those jobs the Repugs like to call 2 -3 million jobs.
Yes. Repubs have not spoken on what to do about rising gas prices, in fact they are happy that the price is going up. Repubs don't want to help Americans with their solutions, all they want is see the administration looks bad. They are committing treason, they should be prosecuted, because they are taking people's money but not doing their jobs.
@Sen
True... the Repugs never offer many solutions, although in this case President Obama did a pretty good job of telling us what the Repug solution is likely to be....
"Drill... then drill some more and then KEEP DRILLING."

The President talked about the high price of gas/oil today and I think microturbines are going to be in the next generation of autos. Not jet cars but used to charge a battery and power for higher road speeds and if coupled with a man made photosynthesis converter water could be used to power it! No more pain at the pump! Heck you car could power your house when your home! No more power bills! Call me a dreamer but it can and will happen!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_turbine#Microturbines
My bet is that light-weight hybrids with solar panels on the roof are going to be coming out some time in the next few years.
The US needs to adopt energy policies like these.
CW, I like your thinking. This is our future if not we are doomed!
@Crackhead
Solar panels on the roof of the cars? But where will Mitt Robme put his dog then?
DScully, Let the dog drive and put Mittens on the roof !!!!!! LOL
The republicans say they can bring the price down if they were president. If they love the country they would show us how they could do it.BIG TALKERS NO ACTION.They know they cant do it or it would have been done by now if they really CARED.
Becky...
The reason gas prices are so high, is because rich Republican speculators are deliberately betting on gas futures that the price of oil will keep going up! The USA has a glut of gasoline, so much we're exporting it to nations where the price of the pump makes it more profitable to sell there!
If a Republican gets into office, all he has to do is ask their buddies to sell off their oil futures, and the price wil drop like a rock!
It is all a scam, to make Obama look weak on the economy...
Next time listen when the President talks about energy independence. How cool is that gun rack on that 10 MPG pickup now?
President Obama is a man of vision for the future of this country.
The GOP only have visions of the past to lead us back to.
I have a Chevy Volt Awesome Car !!!!!!!!! Alot of this is Speculation!!!!!!!!
Not awesome, you can't mount a gun rack on that, ask Newt! I've seen the GOP candidates dismiss science and technology, but never in my life thought I'd see them promoting ignorance and stupidity!
Times CHANGE, that's the reality of all this, pretending you can live on fosil fuels forever is absolutely absurd!
Only idiots drive those POS'S!!!!!! Trucks that get no gas mileage!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kutlass: Only idiots vote for republicants.
Oh yeah Toyota, you got it right!
Actually somebody DID build a gun rack in a Volt and posted the video on youtube. Newt is wrong again.
Feral~ I saw that too! Once again a Repub has it wrong. Who woulda thunk it?
Toyota, Your Mama Did not raise any fool !!!!
I saw a gunrack mounted in the back of a Volt last night on The War Room With Jennifer Granholm on Current tv
My truck gets 20 mpg (22 mpg with the wife driving) and has an Obama Biden 2008 bumper sticker
Sorry Danimal-3 I just love My Volt. Trucks have there place !!!!! But a very small place !!!!!!!
I understand kutlass. I like Volts too. I think they're great
@Open Range
Not so... and I'm not a gun fanatic, but a gun rack can fit in the back of a Volt. Chris Matthews showed a guy with a Volt and gun rack on his show earlier this week, just to prove Newt wrong.
It is probably the same video feraltwinkie mentioned.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zK0ieX9mHr4&feature=related
Newt Gingrinch is asinine.
More money for the Koch brothers.
Those Koch brothers can kiss it!
I love it when people get filthy rich, I hate it when that comes about by abusing and exploiting other people!
Koch suckers.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/08/14/dominionism-michele-bachmann-and-rick-perry-s-dangerous-religious-bond.html
Something Santorium wants to do, Dominionism. They want their religion to dominate your government.
http://www.discernment-ministries.org/ChristianImperialism.htm
That's been their agenda all along for sure.
Santorum gives me the creeps. He reminds me of the politician in Stephen Kings "The Dead Zone". It's been awhile since I've read it, but he was no good. I remember that much.
Thanks, Mom, for this important information. Everyone should read this and pass it on. Our freedom is at stake and under attack!
Thankful, THIS IS A MUST READ! Please go to her post and read the link. Dominism to rule America. War is being waged on all fronts in America. Michell Backman and Perry and those who are preaching politics would like to take it all the way. Do away with America as we know it and control us by religion. Please read this. With what you have seen going on in this country. This CAN NOT BE DISMISSED! The only crazy people will be us if we alow this to happen1 Great post TM!!!!!!!!!!!
Thankful mom, Thank you, I saw that and couldn't think of the word "Dominionism"!! It is a real thing, folks. I knew it, I knew Santorum wasn't right. I'm a Catholic, but I knew he was doing something weird. His ideas are all Catholic and yet it felt so wrong to me and he creeped me out.
I just felt it. Call it women's intuition.
FOX NEWS is the mouth piece of the Republican party who have taken this nation almost to the cliff. Next time you fill up be sure to thank the Republicans!
PAM - How about giving them a SWIFT KICK in the @$$ instead ? Gas prices in my state already broke the $4.00 mark and still climbing.
Exactly Pam . . . and Americans know this . . . can they really believe we dont get the connection ??
TED, We aren't that high yet but getting there. I think its there end game. The economy is climbing and Obama is a hero. So they want to once again strangle us with high gas prices and slow the recovery. Consider that gas nozzle you stick in your tank to fill up the vaginal probe of the Republican party!!! Then ask your self why would any body vote for them ?
MST. They have cried wolf too many times and we will not buy there phony baloney any more !!!!
PAM - Give it time and it MIGHT get that high for you.That's when I start looking for cheaper prices elsewhere (even if I have to drive 30 miles out of the way to do it).
Filled up this morning at Kroger for $3.45 a gallon in Dallas. I need a moped.
Ted, Its something the games they play to. You think you are getting a break if it falls 5 cents or ten. just to have it go up 20 cents a day or two latter. The price of fuel affects everything we do. Our cars, homes, food, and the list keeps going. I don't drive much with taking care of my Mom. So I am in sticker shock when I go out. America was taken to the cleaners in the housing boom and we have been taken to the cleaner for years in every way by the oil industry! Its really sad where we are in this country.
Texas Jodi, When half your pay check goes for gas not much left for anything else!
Pam, I so understand my hubby drives 120 miles a day, its costing a fortune even in his Honda.
TEXAS OH! that hurts. I think you should have stock in the gas company!
TEXAS,JODI - I wouldn't mind seeing $3.45 a gal. around here.The lowest it's been up here was $3.55 a gallon before it started to SPIKE over $4.00 a gallon.
I want to see this $2.00 a gallon republican gas.. :-)
Pam52, and we just bought a van so we could do a little traveling to get out of Winter. Bloody great. Looks like very little now.
I was and am so furious about this.
India, I know after finally saw show you were talking about it made me mad to. Lets face it the Republican party are lower than snakes belly. I was jumping for joy when i saw who Eds guest were and the story was going to be told. Do you think he got your e-mail. I knew I had seen it but could not remember to tell you. I think there will be STAY CATIONS THIS SPRING AND SUMMER again !
PAM - The only way people would be able to go on vacation is courtesy of GOOGLE EARTH.At least there you could get street view and not have to leave your house.But then there are times I would like to actually be there.But then there are some places I wouldn't set foot in but that's where GOOGLE EARTH comes in handy.
TED, I think that is one of the neatests things we have in he internet age.
@Texas,Jodi
The only place you'll find "$2.00 republican gas" is in the farts they are blowing out of their asses.
@Pam
My Dad discovered Google Earth a few months ago, and sat there for hours finding places he used to go to school, play, visit as a child, and other places he's traveled to. All he could repeat over and over was "Amazing!" He was completely enthralled.
DScully, My Grandson showed me it year or so ago. So I took them on a tour of where all we lived while in the military. they saw where there moms lived and were so fascinated. I think it is one of the most fascinating things in the Internet. Its neat to go different times of year to. This big blue marble became very small when we got turned on to the Internet !
GM, Pam52, My husband has gone into the city today, so I can do a few posts before I get back to my work. (I see it is afternoon already). I wish that Bashir had mentioned Newt's rider on the transportation bill that prohibits increasing fuel economy standards. The lying hypocrite. How can they LIE like they do??
I've never found google Earth. Would I see Devon, England or the Isle of Man on there? Could I see a specific address in Devon? How does that work?
Could I see the house I was born in?
President Obama picked a fabulous time to impose sanctions on Iran. The sanctions are removing 2 million barrels of oil a day from the world markets. President Obama should have waited until after the election to impose the sanctions. High gas prices are good for Green Energy programs since the demand for fuel efficient cars are in demand, but it was a poor political move.
All of the rise in gas prices are from speculation in oil futures. If President Obama had not put any sanctions on Iran, the republican presidential candidates would be screaming about his foreign policy. Oh wait, they already are.
RM == Go Fish !!!!!!! GOOF !!!!!! Twist And Spin=Spin=Spin !!!!!!!!
The GOP will scream over anything that Obama does, but both sides will scream when their pocketbook takes a hit.
WOW = You R Scary !!!!!! Ha Haaaa !!!!!!! gop-re-baggers Can Su(K -a- Bone !!!!!!!!!
There HAS been sanctions on Iran...he just toughened them up because they are not abiding by them....which would you rather have...low gas or a nuclear warhead??
Richard you're right about the GOP screaming but they love rising gas prices. They're hoping it'll hurt the economy and raise unemployment numbers. That's all they've wanted since the President was elected
@Cindy Jones
I would rather have the higher gas prices, but I am not a swing voter who is going to wait until election day to decide who to vote for. Many voters will make a last minute decision prior to voting, and a slumping economy is what put Obama in the Whitehouse, and a slumping economy could send him an eviction notice.
High energy prices can drain the consumer spending we need to move the economy forward, and it also causes inflation. The real problem is substandard wages and $20 bucks a week in the gas tank is a lot of money for many Americans.
Cindy, Of course we don"t want them to have nuclear war head. But here we do not get oil from Iran. Europe gets there oil from them and they can park everything at least in Germany for the weekend like they did in the 80s and still have mass transit. The big oil barons are using this as opportunity to line there coffers again. Lets face it and you have seen it happen if there's threat of hurricane they shut the refinery's down and immediately raise gas prices! They are an opportunity bunch of thieves. Meaning give them an excuse and they will use the opportunity to raise prices !!! They can not use Iran as one of them !
#19 RichardMIC With all due respect....that's BS. We do not get oil from IRAN, and the sanctions are necessary and they are working. Go to the Martin Bashir link.
Educate yourself.
India, Boy Howdy old Romney hung his tacos out to dry. A man who has history in Mexico turns on them. He is so unbelievable!
@feraltwinkie
But in truth... the Repugs will and have been screaming about President Obama's foreign policy, domestic policy, economic policy, health care policy, religious policy, etc. since he got into office and no matter what he does.
Regardless of what he does, how successful he is with any of those areas, they will refuse to recognize his achievements. So it doesn't really matter. At long last, he finally realizes that and has stopped playing the game of trying to win their approval or compromise with the Party of NO.
Success?? You call adding 5 trillion to our debt success?? His plan is to add an additional 4 trillion after he's reelected.
5 trillion HE ADDED?
show me the 5 trillion that he added that was not already added in by the last administration.
Oh HELL YES they are.Those greedy bastards ought to be put behind bars for ripping off the general public through subsidies.Gas prices in my state already broke $4.00 a gallon and I think that's a big rip off already and it will go even higher yet.
