In an unexpected move, the Virginia Senate killed the state's "personhood" bill that would define life as starting at conception is dead for this year in Virginia.
The Senate voted 24-14 today to send the bill back to committee and carry it over to 2013.
The action came not long after a Senate committee voted 8-7 along party lines to approve the bill, despite the opposition of those who argued that the broad measure could prohibit birth control and in vitro fertilization.
The proposal, sponsored by Delegate Robert Marshall (R), would have granted "personhood" status to unborn children, including embryos.
"This is a huge win for women in the Republican war on a women's right to choose and women's health," Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee spokeswoman Carolyn Fiddler told The Huffington Post.
The bill's defeat comes days after McDonnell and legislative Republicans agreed to amend the bill requiring women to have a trans-vaginal ultrasound before having an abortion.
Still, the war on women's health goes on. Ed will have an update tonight on The Ed Show on MSNBC.

Reluctantly, I applaud the VA state gov't for ceasing and desisting this particular attack on logic and humanity. "Personhood," as deciding when life begins, has no place in our debate; God has decided and we dare not second-guess Him. We the people can only decide when citizenship begins... which means 'can we tax him/her?' Answer: we can only tax him/her when he/she is BORN, that is outside the mother's body. More important is the question, "when does life/citizenship END?" Thanks, Dad, for your training, that all humans bleed red, have the same organs, and the same value.
The corporate masters stopped this "personhood" bill. Because it would have negated the "corporations are people too" thing they have going, and corporations don't even have a heart in the first place nor are they formed in this manner. Maybe we should push for a Constitutional amendment that says an "individual" is a human being that has or has had a heart beat and breathed air at one time or another in it's life. That would over-turn the Citizens United decision made by the corporate owned courts that basically said that corporations are "individuals". Also VA didn't actually kill the bill, they just put it on the back burner to simmer until after the elections, then they will try to sneak it in disguised as some other legislation. I think that all of this birth-control/religious freedom crap has pretty much gotten out of control. It's time for the elections commission folks to throw the Constitution at them and tell all of these candidates and organizations that support them to read it and point out the part about there is not to be a "religious test" and that they are all disqualified from running for office due to their blatant violations of section VI and the first amendment for attempting to force the government to establish an official religion or set of beliefs by mandating their religions beliefs on everyone. Also every religious organization that has been involved in the elections process will have their tax exempt status pulled and they will have to pay all their taxes including all back taxes to the time their group first got involved in politics. We might as well go all the way and deny access to our government and elections to any and all organizations that act in support of foreign countries or interests like AIPAC etc. They do not support America first nor do they have our national welfare in mind. What a mindless cluster @#$* this has become.

Just wondring, under this personhood bill, will you be able to claim this child on your taxes once you find out that you are with child? This issue shouldn't be in politics at all. The privacy of the women and doctor should stay between them two. The doctors know what is right for there patients and they will decide together what is to come. PERIOD!
