We just have to show you this heated exchange on today's Morning Joe program on MSNBC.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie hammers Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart during a discussion over gay marriage, which Christie recently vetoed.
"I used to be a prosecutor. I’m not going to be cross-examined by you this morning,” said Christie to Capehart.
"I'm having fun trying," Capehart snapped back.
"And you're going to lose, so let's move on," said Christie.
Earlier on in the show, Christie insisted that his position to strengthen civil unions between gay and lesbian couples is the same as President Barack Obama’s position.

Wow! I missed Morning Joe this Morning. Christie did not listen to his constituents and passed the buck. So now he puts it up for vote. The president stood up for gays in the military. I would not want to see Christie as VP, for sure !!!
Christie Would Make For A Good Anchor For The S.S.-Tea-tanic - In Fact - Some Concrete Shoes Might Help Also !!!!!! Hey Ms T !!!!!!
christie was very disrespectful to Johnathon.
he is nothing more than a BIG FAT BULLY!
Suzette, You are so right he comes off as a bully. His arrogance out weighs him. Did you see the clip on Letter men of Christie? There are no words! I just feel he passed the buck !!
If his arrogance outweighs him, arrogance must equal 3 tons? LOL
he is just a blow hard, nothing more
I think he's working on the "strong leader" poll question.
Homophobes R Us . . . R = Republicons !
Why did Christie come on the show if he didn't want to discuss the issues that are affecting the people of his state? Seems to me he should not be invited again unless he is willing to participate. He's a bully and seems to think he is more of a man if he barks at people and tries to insult them.
Its His Way Or The Highway == Typical - GOMER !!!!!!!
Why did Christie come on to the show if he didn't want to discuss matters that are important to his constituents? Seems to me he should not be invited back until he is willing to participate. All this does is give him air time and name recognition for no reason. He would also come off a whole lot better if he answered honestly instead of trying to bully people who are trying to do their job. This kind of behavior makes him very unappealing.
Exactly. His bullying is tiresome!!
...'chrissy' was invited to beat up on Jonathan Capehart, as a pinch hitter for 'joe' who doesn't like his audience to see his ugly little underbelly.
Phony joe in the morning prefers to bully his 'panel' who know when to shut up.
He is such a nasty person. Why can't he say what he wants to say and be polite about it.
He just wants to have his way or no way.
Could you imagine Nasty Newt as Prez and Corpulent Christie as VP? What a repulsive ticket!
When Christie is presented with an opportunity to lead, when he is faced with a monumental decision to stand up for basic civil rights of all people - he passes the buck. He caves on an issue that could potentially help define him as a leader of the people - a representative of civil equality, when it's politically or socially difficult. But political leaders have to make politically difficult decisions in order to be considered leaders. And clearly, Christie is not ready to be a political leader.
Well said.
Chris Christie's a typical bully,
Who can't understand his folks fully.
He interrupts to say,
"MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY!"
His way tramples people's rights, truly...
Chris Christie has balls made of brass,
He won't listen to anyone's sass -
I think I can say
Why he doesn't like Gay -
Any gay'd be repulsed by his huge ass!
David, These are great have missed these. Thanks for bring the fun back to the vine.
David,
As a newbie to this blog...you are one of the reasons I keep coming back! Keep you the great work.
David~ You would have been great writing the old Burma-Shave signs. You have the same cadence!
Jabba the hut tries to run his state like a mob boss. Hopefully the people of New Jersey will put a 'hit' on him and vote the bully wannabe out of office.
What are you guys talking about? Christie said he wanted to put the issue on the ballot and let the people of his state decide.
George: I agree, he certainly looked strong in that interview.
Ms T: Where do you get the, "Homophobes R Us" comment? What did Christie say to warrant your insult?
AdarH: Christie did discuss this matter while pointing out Obama's hypocrisy on the issue:
He answered honestly, stood up for himself against a very foolish interviewer, made the interviewer (with the help of others on the set) look foolish, and showed behavior that I certainly appreciated. He looked like a fierce debater that stood up for the people in his state. Did we see the same interview?
indeed we saw the same interview. We elect legislators in a representative democracy. We don't have referendums to decide which laws to pass. What he is doing is trying to have it both ways: look strong for the right wing regarding social issues and try to look as if he is so democratic that he wants this one particular issue (no others, btw) to be decided directly by the voters.
By doing this he is two faced. And trying to have it both ways. No wonder he likes Mitt Romney.
What it amounts to is passing the buck. We had a president who was a real leader. Truman had a sign on his desk that said "the buck stops here." He never passed the buck. Christie is no Truman. And he is no leader.
I disagree that he made the interviewer look bad. He made himself look undignified and certainly not presidential material.
AdarH: What is so bad about letting the people vote on what they want. Christie apparently disagrees with the bill, but said he is willing to put it to the vote. Sounds fair to me. I don't like the bill either, I'm not sure I would put it up for a vote.
Christie vetoed the bill, sounds pretty decisive to me. What do you call a leader, if it's not acting on your beliefs? You obviously disagree with him, but you are way off base attacking his leadership. Get your terms in line with the rest of the English speaking people.
The interviewer was so pathetic, the moderator had to step in to stop the slaughter.
Civil rights do not have and should not have to be put to a vote. His veto was a Grade A cop-out. He is indeed a bully or the highest order.
Guess we are just going to disagree about this. So be it.
Sounds like a plan. :-)
The only one that looked like a fool was Christie and you. The man is a bad example for anyone children The republicans are obviously just trying to ruin this country they are the party of hate.
"I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now for me as a Christian, it's also a sacred union - God is in the mix.... I am not someone who promotes same-sex marriage."
Well, there you have it liberals! Barack Obama the Christian anti-gay bigot! He admitted it on CNN, Oct. 28, 2008 - So, Obama believes in the Christian God, and is an admitted homophobe! Liberals are hypocrites!
Moo~~You certainly sound un-Christian like!
Moo LOL
LOL
"I believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman. Now for me as a Christian, it's also a sacred union. God is in the mix.... I am not someone who promotes same-sex marriage."
Chris Christie said that! He's such a homophobe! Such an anti-gay bigot! His God hates gays! Chris Christie needs to just shut up!
OH, WAIT! Actually, it was Barack Obama who said that on CNN, Oct. 28, 2008 - So, Obama believes in the Christian God, and is an admitted homophobe. Right liberals? There's your proof!
You liberals are such hypocrites!
Moosicdod, you're just so out of tune,
That you're coming off like a buffoon!
If you hate hypocrites,
The Right should give you fits,
'Cause they'll bring the GOP down to ruin...
Republicans, have NO class at all. None of them. They are mean and filled with hatred.
the difficult part about these issues are not what a personal feeling is but what the constitution states. i can understand, especially when it comes to moral issues why they want to opt out. i think he is right...by putting it up to the voters. it is a no win for any politician and i appreciate and respect his position.
It's ironic that the Right is up in arms and pontificating that government does not have the right to tell Religions what they must do (have their affiliates provide access to contraception) but they want to use government to tell Religions what they must not do - recognize same sex marriage.
Don't forget they want government to respect the religious' right to not be told they have to fill prescriptions they don't want to fill-but they want the government to let the religious tell a woman she has to have a baby whether she wants one or not.
It must be awful to live in N.J. and have such a loud-mouth bafoon for a governor. In the beginning Johnathan Capehart was all alone standing up to the bully. (What is Micahs' purpose anyway? She just sits there with that heavily made-up stone face.) I could not believe that it was Joe Scarborough that stood up to Christie. Hats off to Joe!
The guy always sounds like he is auditioning for a role on The Sopranos.
His line of 'I use to prosecute and your not going to cross examine me 'is getting old fast. He uses it everytime he can't or won't answer something.
He thinks because he is rude and obnoxious it makes him right, it ony makes him look insecure on his position and intolerant of anyone else's opinion but his own.
Bullies like him are usually insecure people who put on this big man front so as to stop people seeing their weaknesses and faults and using them against them and attacking them on it. Put people on the defensive so they can't question you on your faults.
Time for him to put away his insecurities and act like an adult if he wants to be a public figure and be in a position of authority that affects other people's lives. He doesn't realize he has to answer to those who elected him.
I'd wager he was picked on terribly in elementary school because of his weight, and he turned into a bully once he got into high school so he wouldn't be bullied any more. It worked so well for him, he can't drop the persona now because he feels insecire.
Why is that Republicans governors, speaker of house, representatives believe they are on the same level as President Obama? President Obama is the boss of all of the above---head man in charge! Christie challenged the president to come on Morning Joe to state his postiion on same sex union. He has a platform as the president of the USA and has no need to go on television shows to promote his agenda or his beliefs. As an elected president of "we" the people he has made his intentions clear, and if officials, such as Christie are not clear, email or call the president for clarification (after all Christie has access to the president). Christie is a big man with a lot of hot air to expel, he is a bully and he also displayed low self esteem (possible because of his weight issue), by trying to over-talk Joe and Jonathan; however, he also conveyed his ignorance this morning. I think the NJ citizens should rethink their choice and vote this man out of office. There are a lot of Republican leaders that "we" the people need to eliminate from public office, and Christie is one for sure, send this man to the left and out of office.
To my knowledge, no Republican ever went to the Soviet Union and discussed how to defeat a sitting American president. Who ? None other then the liberal icon Ted Kennedy.
To my knowledge, no Republican ever went to the Soviet Union and asked discussed how defeat a sitting American president. Who ? None other then the liberal icaon Ted Kennedy.
I am glad United States of America did not put Civil rights on the ballot. As an African American, I would be calling someone like Capt. America "Massa", would still be sitting at the back of the bus, is sixty-three years of age and still will be called girl or gal". The list goes on and on. No this does not need to be put on a ballot.
Guys like this are a dime a dozen.
At least that's the going rate between billionaires right now, who bit in terms of $10,000 equaling about 10 CENTS for them.
This is just one of those clowns who doesn't even have the "COURAGE" to walk out on the stage and face a primary in his own party, much less win a nomination...LOL
What is embarrassing for New Jersey is that they elected this clown as DICTATOR (emphasis on the first syllable).
Now go figure that one!
Actually Christie appeared homophobic...and I agree lacking any leadership courage at all. What are these Republicans drinking?
If Governor Christie does not reverse his veto he is not going to get his 10% tax cut
