Listening to Romney makes it sound like the long form appellation for the Mormon Church would be the "Church of Pharisees of Latter Day Saints," where Romney would ask: What would the Greedy Bastard do? And it sounds more like it was the Angel Baloney (rather than Moroni) that was David Smith's inspiration for creating the movement that is now called the Mormon Church.

As to Santorum, it sounds like he's so much a wannabe Bishop who pushes the idea of Freedom of Religion so hard that, were it not for the Establishment Clause, there would be no Constitutional obstacle to prevent a President Santorum from changing the US into a Theocracy, where Bishops, Archbishops, and Cardinals would govern in lieu of Mayors, County Supervisors, and Governors. And that the Pope would have veto control, whereas the US has always stridently rejected that kind of relationship with the United Nations and the Secretary-General.

Newt would decide that, after converting to Catholicism and being satisfied with just Callista since he married her, that he can no longer suppress his desire for an open marriage, that he'd leave the Catholic Church and form the Church of Ersatz Monogamy, which would allow him to have as many mistresses as he wants, allowing him to become the first President to have not merely the First Lady but the First Harem.

Ron Paul, in saying that immorality leads to the need for contraception shows that his Libertarian Philosophy is constrained by his Social Conservatism. If Rep. Paul were a consistent Libertarian, he's insist that government has no authority to outlaw polygamy and that Newt should be able to have as many wives as he wants, that Mitt's ancestors should not have been compelled to leave the US and go to Mexico to continue being polygamists, and so on.

If only modern day Conservatives were philosophically consistent in their beliefs - a la Barry Goldwater, and recognize that "Socially Conservative," based on current usage, is an oxymoron, since they all want government to interfere with women's sex lives and reproductive organs. (After the Governor of VA refused to sign the bill that would have required transvaginal ultrasounds without the woman's consent, and recommended the bill be amended to allow for "non-invasive" ultrasounds instead, the author of the bill as originally written, has threatened to withdraw support for the bill if transvaginal ultrasounds were to no longer be required. (Given that said author happens to be female, I can imagine that women who could potentially be victimized by such legislation will be strongly motivated to vote against her when she runs for reelection - if they can.)

Openrange, I heard on NPR this AM how the policies of the leading GOP candidates would affect the deficit, and hence, the country. Since they are into the Grover Norquist pledge, they will not raise taxes, and intend, instead to LOWER them, and then make sharp cuts in government spending, we won't have enough revenue to sustain ourselves and the deficit will go up by trillions! We will lose virtually every safety net we have. Our air and water will be at risk! The very AIR we breathe!

What are these people (the voters) thinking who say, "Oh, we have to lower the deficit, and then want someone for president who will make it so much worse"?

as i have gotten older, i have heard so many interpretations of the book of revelations. when i was a little girl, it used to be russia. now its iran.

with all due respect, capt., you have the right to believe as you want. but, according to glenn beck, the world is coming to an end every other day.

i have talked to repubs who say that the war in iraq was "good", because it was "biblical", and it would lead to the "rapture".

there are many good things in the bible, and i use it for meditations. but, like the book of mormon it was written by men who "thought" they were inspired by god. my mother was into that "end of the world" thing, too. as kids, we grew up scared, afraid that every day was our last. after so many unfulfilled predictions of the end of the world, it became a huge relief to stop thinking about it.

every generation who reads the bible will be able to interpret it in regard to things that are going on in the world. i believe the bible has a purpose. it is accepted by many as the truth, as the final word. people who are afraid of going to hell, or of not being good enough to "make the rapture", will use the bible as a guide to be "good enough" to get into heaven. it serves the purpose of "big brother", in an spiritual way. emotionally, the book of revelation is also based on fear, to "keep people in line".

i do agree with you on one thing. eventually someone who has nukes will use them.

Suzette , Good Morning, I enjoyed reading your post so much. I feel in many ways as you do. Its so sad we are on this earth for a short time and many spend it in hate or fear. We are as individual as the stars as grains of sand and beautiful snow flakes. If only there were more acts of kindness around the world and less acts of hate. the bible is a beautiful book and every one has a different view of it. As far as nukes are concerned, yes there may be a lone wolf, but do you people realize that we have ways to detect radioactive materials with sensors? We can detect those materials easily as they are transported. But yes, there is a possibility no matter how small it is. If you live your lives worried about the small probabilities, you would always be scared.....WHY? There is always a probability that an asteroid will hit the Earth, a probability of an earthquake with a magnitude of 10 on the Ricter scale that could hit anywhere. So why worry? Just be intelligent and be observant, that is all we can do. I could build a nuke myself if I had the materials, it is common knowledge to us physicists.

The probability is much higher for you to get into a fatal car accident than a lone wolf getting and detonating a nuke. Hey Pam....pretty day so far. What do you think about Obama's plan to reduce the corporate tax rate and remove the loopholes? Personally, I like the idea and have been pushing for it for a while....My question is how is he going to do this without completely starting over with the tax code....I'll be out working most of the day today so I won't be on here much....but I will check back periodically.

I hope this warm weather doesn't kill all the fruit this year...If it stays mild and doesn't get extremely cold we might be ok....wow...what a winter or lack thereof.

I just hope the tax reform isn't a political move that is dead on arrival. I haven't seen the details of his plan and the devil is in the details. I think he has a tendency to offer up a juicy steak and get conservatives excited only to smear it in manure. Then ask the question....I thought you guys liked steak? I hope that isn't the case, because we definitely need tax reform....Take out the loopholes and lower the corporate rate and make it a level playing field for all the businesses. I also think that it is wrong for over 47% of Americans to not pay any Federal Tax. Everyone above the poverty level should be paying some federal tax. Just my opinion...

i don't remember if you said that your stepfather had hospice involved in his care. i used to work for hospice, and spent many hours in the dying patient's home with their families.

dying is easier than being left behind to deal with the loss, but if the patient(your stepfather) and his family knows death is near, for the most part families have prepared for this moment, as difficult as it is. about 10 years ago, my boyfriend died unexpectedly, and my grief was unbearable, i thought i would never feel normal again.

sometimes i would go to care for a patient, and thought i would be there all day, but death happens sometimes quickly. many times i cared for patients who were waiting for a family member, or a phone call, and as soon as the phone call or family member arrived, they die immediately. based on my experience, it seems that some can "will" themselves to live long enough to speak to a brother on the phone, or wait for a daughter to sit by the bed.

the most significant part of my experience in caring for the "dying", was when we knew death was imminent. family and friends and their pastor would surround the bed and hold hands and pray as their loved one died. this was always very moving and comforting for me. i knew that the suffering was over, and that healing can now really begin for the family. i must say here that the medications that hospice patients are given, do much to alleviate pain AND THE FEAR OF DYING for the patient.

but...as the pastor led the family in prayer, i could feel the presence of the "holy spirit" in that room, and i could almost see the soul of the dying released into heaven.

i do not wear my spiritual on my sleeve. it is a very private thing that i know i can depend on.

i'm sure you miss your stepfather, but i hope you find comfort in the knowledge that he is in a better place.

Today, the president disposed rather quickly of the idea of Newt's two dollar a gallon gas ever being a reality. There are no magic bullets and the president is doing everything he can to get these prices down. He understands the complexity of the problem.

These GOP soundbites need to be challenged by the media at the time they are made! People on the GOP's base actually believe this garbage. Oil prices are a global problem, heavily dependent on stability in the middle East. It is not caused by Obama and not easily solved. It is compounded by Wall Street speculating, which needs to end.

India, What great post. You are so right. They proved last time it was Wall Street that shot gas prices up just as this time. Now I was In Calif. last Summer and gas was about same as now. We went to Pismo Beach and needed gas It was $5.00 gal. then. So whats the hype? They pump the fear and therefore raise the prices. Very clever game they play. Suzzette: My stepfather went on Hospice in January, earlier this week the nurse gave me some morphine for his pain. It was only a matter of time. He died sometime between 3:30 and 4:30 this morning, the nurse who pronounced him dead said he looked at peace and seemed to just pass easily in his sleep (we've had a auditory monitor in his room, I never heard any moans or groans at that time.

I appreciate the hospice program, the nurse asked Tuesday if we wanted him moved to the Hospital. He wanted to die at home, and Hospice gave him that opportunity.

India: gasoline is now a global market, Newt says some really stupid stuff sometimes! Middle East trouble is certainly part of it, but speculators only hold on to any commodity when they fear very short term shortages. Obama cannot take to fall for this one. Obama's veto of the Keystone pipeline certainly hurt supply, but the veto also caused speculators to hold on to inventories, causing more movement in price. You can't stop speculating in a free market, it is the market's "shock absorber." The alternative is government control, and that is always a disaster.

Pam, all companies will always benefit from large price movements, the oil companies are no exception. This may be a good time to buy oil stocks, but there is greater risk also.

Richard: Paul is certainly one to watch, just don't like him cozening up to Romney.

Davy: the reporters are the ones returning to questions on religion, so they can then twist their words to create animosity. They have sold their immortal souls a long time ago!

Clara: Do you really think Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, or Paul really want to discuss religion? They have to respond to the stupid questions from the press. Review those interviews and you will see who continues to steer the conversation back to religion.
