Franklin Graham, the son of evangelist Billy Graham told a MSNBC Morning Joe panel he couldn't say for certain that Obama is a Christian, and presidential candidate Rick Santorum accused Obama of having a "phony theology." NBC's Andrea Mitchell reports.
The Rev. Franklin Graham, son of America’s most famous preacher, says he’s certain that Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich are Christians. But not so much President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
Tonight, Ed welcomes Barry Lynn, Executive Director of Americans United, and E.J. Dionne, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and Washington Post columnist, for reaction and full analysis.
A week away from votes in Michigan and Arizona, the rhetoric heats up on the campaign trail. Newt Gingrich declares Barack Obama as the most dangerous president in modern American history. And a 2008 tape of Santorum, declaring "Satan has his sights set" on America, surfaces.
Jonathan Alter, MSNBC Political Analyst and Bloomberg View Columnist, and Richard Wolffe, MSNBC Political Analyst, will break it all down.
The radical attack on women suffers a setback as the expected vote on a bill to require women in Virginia to undergo an ultrasound, including a transvaginal sonogram, prior to having an abortion, is delayed.
Is it the bill state-sponsored rape?
Ed will talk to Delegate Charniele Herring (D-VA), Minority Whip and Chair of Virginia’s Reproductive Rights caucus, on what it means for women in the state.
Republicans are still trying to silence Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown student who appeared on The Ed Show last week. First, they wouldn't let her or any other woman testify at a birth control hearing. Now Democrats are holding their own hearing with Fluke, but refuse to televise it!
An all-male panel testifies to Congress about contraception, but the Democrats' witness, Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, wasn't allowed to testify. Fluke joins Ed exclusively, then Professor Caroline Heldman breaks down the politics of it all.
Terry O’Neill, President of the National Organization for Women, Lizz Winstead, comedian and co-creator of The Daily Show and Krystal Ball, Democratic strategist and former candidate for U.S. Congress, comment on the on-going Republican war on women’s health.
And gas prices are going up at the pump and Republicans are trying to take advantage of it at the polls. Ed has the REAL reasons for the price hikes.
It's going to be another packed @EdShow at 8pET on @msnbctv.

THEY Will Use Any Useless Tactic To Stir The Pot = Keep Religion Out Of Politics-Period !!!!!! They Use That Book As A Crutch=Perhaps THEY Need To Read It !!!!!! Obviously THEY Don't Understand The Contents Within It !!!!!!
This Panel That Is Supposedly Making Decisions On Contraception Should Be ALL FEMALE = NOT ALL MEN Or Perhaps To Make It Truly Fair = Both Men And Women Equally !!!!
Newt says you can't put a gun rack in a volt. I thought gun racks were as passe' as a sweater vest........the looking backwards part is made up of a bunch of antiquated idiots.
There was never a hearing on birth control. The hearing was on the Obama administrations blatant attempt to violate the Constitution. Today a lawsuit was filed against the administration who will lose before the Supreme Court.
Get lost right wing
Owbgs ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ -== Another RE-REG ==- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I see olin changed to owbgs.......... Barrak will be BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE AGAIN and so will his lovely family.
It will be the republican circus that will be leaving town.
Steve
"Get lost right wing"
LOL think they have been lost for a good long time now.
So why does the Catholic Church offer birth control in their health plans right now and before they legally had to?
What damages to one's practice of religion with this law suit if it even exists show because the court has made clear in the past that without damages they will do nothing especially when it is in the realm of secular business?
Will you answer these charges? (shakes magic 8 ball).....Seems doubtful
why does the right wing hate women's health?
Barrak??????????????????
JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
Since when did children get to name themselves? So because Obama's parents decided to name him Barrak instead of Sam or Ed somehow that makes him alien? Gee I wonder how Moon Unit Zappa would feel knowing that she isn't a real American because her parents didn't name her Rebecka.
The Republican party is out of control this is total freaking garbage they want to take women back to the dark ages where women have no rights and nothing The republican party does not give a dam about the middle class they only care about the wealthy. The republican party wants to eliminate every dam thing from the middle class and they want power, money and control. The republicans are distracting from the real issues like jobs, education and everything else instead they attack women's right that's garbage. Come November we need a big freaking turnout and together we can do it This election is life and death that's no joke people we must win our country and that's the bottom line.
Steve = Rite-On = Hope Your Doin' Well This Eve !!!!!! Sounds Like You Are !!!!!! Good-Good !!!!!
I think Steve can get as over heated on this subject as you, MD.. . . . . GOOD!
TM - Ha haaa !!!! Lets ALL Get Over-Heated Together - We ALL Need To - hey !!!!! Good-Good !!!!!!
Excellant valid points, Steve. the republicans only know how to criticize, belittle, demonize, tell lies, be deceitful, etc etc etc. the republicans have zero plans, don't care about the truth and are only interested in power even if it destroys our country in the process. don't forget to thank the supreme court for their ruling allowing the superrich 1% to try to determine the outcome of our elections too.
Gosh, Kathy- as I read the blog entries above yours, all the way to the top- are you sure you are addressing the right party? You might want to relate how those entries criticize, belittle, demonize, tell lies, be deceitful, etc.
I'm doing good MD/Ml thanks
Geesh- I didn't mean to shut off the conversation. I was only pointing out a bit of hypocrisy.
Kathy hit the nail right on the head rusty 'ol boy and you know it. And as for 'shutting off the conversation' sorry, you're not credible enough to cause that to happen.
Tex- I really hope you figure out what makes you so unhappy in life. If it is just politics, then understand that our country is great enough to withstand very bad elected officials. Heck, we had Carter, Bush II, and in Illinois, like 5 of the last 7 have been sent to cells afterwards.
Cheer up- your guy is going to win unless this gas price thing gets him down and turns the economy south again.
It's sad that this is actually what the other side ie the GOP is hoping for....or at least the house republicans who John Boehner have instructed to embrace the hate and the dark feelings of their constituents on gas prices.....they just can't be quite happy with an american success if it's not their guy in the white house
we should fire all of congress and create new measures that ensure they can not be paid more than a certain percentage of how much the average american worker makes
Yeah- I remember in 2007 and early 2008- The Dems were in full force with calls of "Oilman Bush" and passing blame for $4 gas. It is funny that Obama didn't state his case against a party hoping for bad news at that time.
it is these factors that drive up prices for oil.
step one=drill
step two=drill
step three=pretend that we have a supply problem and that drilling would lower prices
CC- yep- And it has Obama in quite a quandary. On one hand, his team has criticized a lack of oversight, regs, etc for the housing speculative bubble- so actually admitting that is a problem today with petro, while allowing it to continue and then claiming it threatens our economy puts him in a precarious position.
Also- deep down- Obama belongs to the country club of petro haters- so he really doesn't mind the increase in prices- yet he has to act aghast at them because they cause pain to the folks who would vote for him.
Then- one other dichotomy he finds himself in is the push for Natural Gas. It burns cleaner and more efficiently, and because of new techniques of getting it, is readily available. But his environmental buddies hate these new techniques. He has to walk a fine line between pushing this cleaner source, and living with how you get the source.
yeah sure whatever
if we didn't allow corporations to own or "democracy" maybe someone in DC might have the balls to stand up to them
put the president's job is never to write laws or legislation, if regulation is going to be put in place congress is the branch that actually has the authority to do that, that's their but of course they will never do that job so that means the executive is able and in some ways forced to gain more powers
Not for sure I can make heads or tails out of what you just said- but I'm pretty sure quite a few will pop up with a "oh yeah"!
I'm saying that your assumptions about how the president feels about fossil fuels are irrelavent since he has no power to change things so it doesn't matter how he feels
Yep- just funny that libs sure thought GWB had that power.
Now- there is a difference between short term and long term. The President has no power in the short term. I would suggest he would have quite a bit of power to have an affect in the long term. Hence- the quandaries above.
The Supreme Court is infiltrated with biased judges so good luck on what ever you think they are going to decide fairly.......The repug nut cases are only interest to put up a smoke screen.
Elena Kagan recused herself on a case that's coming up. She had worke don the case when she was with the Justice Dept. Do you think Thomas would do that with the Healthcare decision? NOOO he won't. He should because of his wife, but he won't. And you know if Kagan recuses, that case will go the way Thomas, Scalia, Alito, Kennedy and Roberts want it to probably.
Will hell freeze over?
Quite funny- complaints about a stacked court. Many of the most liberal of all laws of the land came not by congressional action, but by expansive courts. It is what it is- just funny to hear the whining about it at this point.
This whole Franklin Graham thing is laughable...must be a slow or no news day......Franklin is no one in politics he actually has little to no influence politically more importantly he never said anything disagreeable about the president's beliefs. Now perhaps if one makes no effort to try and see into his view point as is the case here with Ed then the response is predictable. If you think this is so insulting you clearly haven't been paying attention because I'd call this tame at worst. This is fake outrage.
How the Virginia GOP and their rape women who want abortions bill or Newt Gingrich and his treasonous accusations about the president and gas prices
how about the Republicans trying to pretend they haven't done anything other than screw mid east foreign policy
or how about you know JOBS since the right really doesn't want to shift the conversation that way...can we bring back manufacturing......
Why is Obama's faith even an issue? Last time I looked, there was a separation of church and state in the constitution and the citizenry of this country comprised of multiple faiths, agnostics, and atheists too. What is going on? Why is "Who is the better or real Christian" an issue? The issue should be - who is the leader, who do we believe has the most integrity - not what kind of Christian he is! This should not even be on the table, and the media highlighting Graham and others' complaints and accusations about Obama's level of faith is giving legitimacy to a non-legitimate argument. Why isn't this the real point?
or whether the president is christian at all, remind when the conspiracy tea party croud was trying to claim Obama was muslim. I think Barbara Walters said it best on that issue "the president isn't muslim and it wouldn't matter if he was"........the constitution makes zero religious tests for president you would think that the party that constantly waves the document around would know that. However on that note I suppose we should not be surprised considering this is the party of the patriot act(well they were the first ones with it...another issue), and the "radicalization of the muslim community" aka Peter King's muslim witch hunt hearings, shrink government down to a size smallest enough to enter a women's sexual organs, "end judicial surpremacy" as Newt Gingrich puts it which basically means use the federal power to bully judges that make rulings he doesn't like, and of course the constant chant that our government should be "religious"(evangelical christian only no other faiths) despite the fact that the word "jesus" appears no where in the constitution or declaration(not once)
The GOP should read the document they continually wave around and the democrats should actually read the document so they can actually call out the blatant attacks they make on it.
The President of the united states can be what ever color, gender, ethnic background or religion. Floating this idea that the president must be christian is not constitutional, it is anti-american and contrary to our cultures superior belief in tolerance and judging individuals on their own individual actions or character
What is happining to our country? Repugs claiming to be christian, yet they do nothing but lie, smear, bear false witness, they are willing to let people die without health care. My bible says many false prophets would come in the last days. It makes you wonder. These men are NOT christians, no matter what they say!
To bring a bunch of bishops into a hearing about women has to be the biggest joke on the thugs. Is this not the same bunch who are constantly being sued for raping young boys? So now they are planning to have a woman's own Dr perform rape on his patients. Issa needs to be thrown to the curb like the sicko dog he is. Wise up California. I am from there and he is as sleazy as they come. Read the new definition of RAPE. If this doesn't rile up self thinking women to finally vote in their best interest then we are a lost gender and we can roll over and let men do to us whatever they damn well please. My grandmother, my mother and I fought for the rights the younger women of this country now have, this fight is not over until we say it is over. Time to step up to the plate and fight for your rights and those of your daughters.
Republicans keep proving over and over again just how insane they've all become.
The FBI reclassifies rape of someone as penetration of them without their consent, thus making me wonder if all the Republicans behind one intrusive woman-raping law after another across our nation can be brought up on rape charges, like those in Virginia? A woman raped by a trans-vaginal probe against her will definitely has standing to file criminal charges against all the Republican rapists in Virginia who voted for this law. Maybe, just maybe, some time behind bars might cure some of these radical Republicans of their radical anti-women agenda...but I doubt it. The righteous religious types are called blind for a reason, and they inevitably fall into the ditch, one on top of another.
Franklin declares Rick Santorum as a "Christian" yet 'he doubts' OUR PRESIDENTS proclamation of faith.
That in itself, should tell you more about Franklin Grahams religious hypocrisy as much as his babbling heretical biblical doctrine
Franklin has proven that he chooses to base his religiosity on his politics rather than any sort of Biblical knowledge.
Tell us, Franklin what is SCRIPTURAL "Baptism" and how does it relate to "Salvation" and the Catholic Church?
Of course, we expect you to use the Bible verify up your thesis.
By the way, for the record, in WHICH VERSION OF THE BIBLE, do you find your data?
Does your INTERPRETATION follow the "canon of faith" as INTERPRETED by ancient Greek and Latin Church Fathers?
I'm just asking...
Ed, I just watched your segment on rising oil barrel and gasoline prices, increases being falsely blamed on President Obama, and you didn't mention the oil futures speculators, like at Koch Industries, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, and so on.
After the 2008 energy price spike, analysts reported after the fact that of the approximately $4.00 a gallon on average that Americans were paying at the pump, 40 percent was attributable to the unregulated oil futures speculators. If this was so back in 2008, then this is more than likely happening today, causing the most recent oil barrel and gasoline price spike.
What are the "consumer protection" commissioners on the Commodities Futures Trading Commission doing to address this? Can they do anything at all? I know that they can limit trading of the oil futures speculators, but are they?
Based on what analysts reported after the 2008 artificially-inflated price spike, gasoline prices should be below $3.00 a gallon easily, probably closer to $2.50 a gallon, because we aren't facing a supply and demand problem, especially with U.S. consumption dropping by over 5 percent. The only thing that makes sense is that the oil futures speculators are running wild, meaning that while I'm pumping gas into my car, I'm at the same time pumping money into the pockets of all the oil futures speculators like the Koch brothers at Koch Industries, those at Goldman Sachs, Bank of America and who knows how many foreign speculators, including Arabs who might not like America very much, like al Qaeda Islamist sympathizers. In reality, rising energy prices, rigged or not, is a national security matter, and should be treated as such.
Oracle- is there any interest in bring the price of gas down?
Not from the Koch, or other like them!
Not from the people who sell the gas.....
Oracle I would slightly disagree in that all though the impact of gas prices does affect the nation and the economy the president doesn't control gas prices at least not since Nixon and I like that....lets keep it that way
Oh sure- any oil people want the price of gas high. That's a given. Mom- what do you think Obama wants? Do you think that if high fuel prices were offensive to him as it was to you, he would take action? Or is he powerless to market forces? Which do you think he is- powerless or supportive when it comes to high oil prices?
The president shouldn't have the power to dictate how much they must sell their oil for and frankly since the international fossil fuel corporations and their OPEC allies wield such power(obviously) on this issue I don't know what legal power the president has ever had to influence gas prices.....
We should not go back to Nixon price setting....
Now maybe the congress could pass a peice of legislation to control or reign in the price speculation that accounts for some of the high prices but the executive doesn't legally have that power. Perhaps maybe the president could beg the sharia court of Abdullah Al Saud to lower to the prices since they have tons of fuel just setting in their oil vineyards....but I personally wouldn't like to see that....but that's also one way
But of course the higher prices as of late are due to the Iran anxieties not a real shortage of fuel
Looks like the republicans hate Obama so much that they wont believe him regardless if the POTUS says he is a christian. Wouldnot be surprised if they would like him crucified just like the pharisees and the seduccees hated and crucified the Lord Jesus Christ. These two groups were hypocrits, liars, backstabbers, beliefs of grandeur and holier then Jesus.
Yes, the Republicans will stop attacking the President's faith ... on Jan 20, 2017
Mr. Dionne has it. With our constitutional mandate separating church and state - why should any elected official be subjected to a christian - or any religion - litmus test? Jefferson was not a christian. Nor Franklin - and many of the founding group - most people have forgotten that our revolution was founded on Enlightenment principles.
After listening to (DR) Craig Mitchell earlier on Martin Bashir, we have learned that people in this country must first pass the hypocritical judgment of certain self-appointed, religious leaders, as to whether or not any one of us actually qualifies as a "true" Christian.
Fortunately, we are now further enlightened to the fact that after observing Craig Mitchell in this interview, it certainly is NOT clear that he himself is indeed "a Christian".
It is also evident that he, in his sanctimonious conclusions have no scriptural authority to presume any one else's personal relationship with Christ.
This supposed 'cleric' is the poster child for the separation of Church and State.
Proof positive once again that none of theses conjectural leaders can keep their politics out of their religion any more than they can keep their religion out of our government!
No one cares what these assumed "professionals" presume to believe personally.
However, when they take it upon themselves to use their position as so called "spiritual leaders" to permeate a personal agenda of "political/religiosity" into the government of the United States of America or upon the President of the United States, they are well beyond their "calling".
Of course, that presumes that they were actually "CALLED" in the first place.
