Mitt Romney has just released a campaign ad bragging about his record at Bain Capital. But he left out a critical point: that one of the companies he touts made a huge profit with subsidies and tax breaks from the government!
Ed will talk about this potential game-changer tonight with Robert Reich, former U.S. Labor Secretary and UC Berkeley Professor, who introduces and defines "Bain Capitalism."

blah blah blah - many companies are offered incentives tied to employment numbers so if your going to tell the story tell the whole story. At least the Bain companies unlike Obama's Solyndra operate under investor profit rules. Obama changed the rules to protect his donors at the expense of the taxpayers with the Solyndra loan.

I watched the Rev's report on the pipeline tonight. He had an inspector that had worked on it. He says that goo is like peanut butter and has all kinds of toxic chemicals in it. If it spills, they don't know how to clean it up. They've had 17 leaks in what they have built already. Canada doesn't want it going across their land. The Rep. Nebr. Gov doesn't either. This bad stuff that wouldn't provide that many jobs compared to the harm it would do, doesn't have to be decided now. It's the Reps in the government, being pushed by big oil to drive it through Congress. Oh yes, the Almighty profit before the general welfare of the country.

There is a lot to be said about the Keystone XL pipeline project and none of it is good. Posted a lot of links about that a month ago. American will lose big time both economically and environmentally if this gets approved. Obama's Jobs Act is a much, much better way to go!

We know the "bad" things are that his family's company has most of it's jobs in China and India, that his family's company had a plant in Iran as late as 2010 and closed it due to potential conflicts (Jon's run for President?), that his family's company sold weapons grade plastics to an Iranian store (possible government front?), worse(?)he's a Mormom, and the worst of the worst things that he could possibly have done is he served his Country as Ambassador to China under President Obama.
Maybe there are some other things to pop up. But, he is definitely the sane one out of the "candidates".

Yeah... I don't know. One of the son's is apparently in residency as a doctor, so there might be some sign of compassion. Of course it depends if he became a doctor because he thinks it'll make him lots of money, or if he really wants to help people and take care of people.

Even Reagans supply side nonsense demands products to be sold but instead of relying on demand to create supply it requires people to buy the surplus, what the righties miss out about that is to work consumers have to have credit to buy surplus or the whole economy crashes.
The right is in panic mode. Some of them are starting to sense the ship is sinking. Just wait til the clamor for Mittens tax returns revs up. Then it will be too late for them to change their mind.

They've passed Citizens United, Romney's tax plan would be a bonanza for millionaires and raise the taxes of the poor and working class, they want to decimate social security, medicare and medicaid, they do not want to fund education, firemen or police, they want to bust unions and stop collective bargaining, they want to repeal what little health care reform we now have, they want fraudulent elections, they want control over reproductive rights for women and their gynecological health care, they want to lower or dismiss the minimum wage, they want to put the power of our Democracy into the hands of corporations and the wealthy elite, they want to end the ERA, they want to deregulate the banks and Wall Street, they want to privatize the post office by bankrupting it, and they want to put a ruthless corporate raider in the White House.

buy the surplus??????? surplus is sold below cost that is why it is called SURPLUS. there are reasonable and real arguments against a supply only approach but you just ignore reality and make up stuff. Ive been gone for 2 months but no progress has been made towards reality. Supply side economics is based on the idea of reducing risk to business by granting incentives so that employers will be motivated to risk capital on new ventures. An example of supply side economic tools is the Obama package that gave reduced depreciation schedules, hiring credits, and capital gain holiday. None of these programs are designed to cause business to produce a surplus inventory but rather to risk capital on new ventures. PLEASE read a book and maybe we could have a real debate. ( not holding my breath)

That's right... there hasn't been any further move towards reality for the Repugs and especially the lunatic right wing fringe Teapugs. They still have completely no concept of economics, such as supply and demand and mainly the need for the middle class to have jobs, to earn money to buy things. That is how real economics works.
Supply side capitalism of course is only meant to give government subsidies and tax cuts to the rich and corporate interests while reducing the income of the middle and lower class. Which has been shown in the stagnant earnings of the middle class over the past 30 years, and particularly the massive increase in poverty over the past decade of Bush tax policies.
I missed you Sculley you are still here making sense. However you have a tainted view of the role of incentives. Business involves risk of your money. That is why most people would rather work at a job and rely on a check. They do not want to gamble with their living and take a chance of losing their car home and savings. Business people have everything they own at risk every minute. I know I've gone bust twice but it is in my blood to keep trying. Supply side incentives have a role in tax policy and that is to reduce the risk a business takes enough so it will cause people to start investing in plant equipment and hiring. Just down the road from me about 6 months ago a daylight donuts opened up the only doughnut shop in the area, I became a customer and spoke with and got to know the owners. They had both lost their jobs but when they looked at some of the incentives available they took out a mortgage on their house got an additional loan from family and bought a franchise( Like I did years ago.). When things are tight it is difficult to get somebody to take on risk if they have money in the bank they just sit tight. These people did not have enough cash to sustain themselves and had to do something. They stood up and rolled the dice working 80 hours in a 7 day week to make a go of it. They hired a staff of 3 locals to help them run the place.The store is now dark. They lost all they had plus all the family gave to them. There was just not enough sales to cover their overhead of employees , rent etc. only 1 out of 10 new business survives a year. Without the incentives they probably would not have given it a shot but they were enough to encourage them to at least try. The trouble with progressives is they think all businessmen are billionaires and all they have to do is hire people and the money will roll in. Sorry REAL economics does not work that way. When business people are afraid to expand if demand increases they don't produce more they raise prices . Excess demand causes inflation it is only when business is somewhat sure of success that they expand and incentives that lower that risk do work. I cannot for the life of me understand why Democrats cannot understand the simplest principal in economics which is the Risk/Reward ratio. Only a moron would go to a casino and make a bet that was 5 to 1 against them. when the odds are 1 to 1 business people begin to take risk again. Supply side incentives lower risk they do not cause surpluses as that would make no sense. Surpluses occur when there is not enough demand to buy the stock on the shelf so that is what causes sales. In the case of the donut shop they were across the street from a HyVee grocery that had a large bakery section and sold donuts at a lower price than Daylight , There product was good but not enough better to cause people to change buying habits.

I had the same problem when I started 'ignoring' trolls, until I noticed some things...
1. It only rolls up a lot of posts, when the troll made the first post in that column of posts. Otherwise, it's only posts by that 'ignored' author...
2. When you ignore posts by someone, the vine still displays the author's name, followed by "Ignored Author". Click on the "Ignored Author", and that particular post, AND ALL ASSOCIATED POSTS, expand. Thus, you can check out all the posts you want to see, by only clicking on "Ignored Author" when it's the top post of a group...

Oh. one other thing...
When you post normally, The page automatically updates. This means, any comments you post in an expanded column will caise that column to collapse, and the page will nit refresh at the point that you made the comment, but pop back to the top of the page. You will have to find and re-expand that collapsed post if you want to check your post for errors...

Have you noticed how they may drop it say by 10 cents and raise it 20 cents. Bread and eggs through the roof. They are squeeze every last dollar out of us the consumers.Free trade brought us here in America higher prices on about ever thing. Its a cleaver game they play. Hire a few temps then cut them loose. Thanks for the welcome Pam, And i was alerting People to the high price of Milk back in 2006 even as the fuel prices were rising... The overall rise in food costs came gradually as the 2008 bank crisis increased poverty and forced record numbers of Our Citizens onto the food stamp program...
Because grocery store owners noticed the influx of food stamp usage...they systematically raised the prices of their goods to exploit the crisis and increase their market share of the food industry... it worked too...and while they were raking in record profits their customers were essentially left to starve!!!
So, here we have another example of how private industry has taken government subsidies to pad their own pockets!

One that troubles me is how the "downtown" grocery stores stock inferior meats and brands of food that are either generic or brands no one ever heard of. Then they price things too high. Many of the poor in the town I am thinking of have no car, or simply cannot drive. They are stuck. They can't get to a Walmart because of poor bus service so they have to shop at this one grocery store which at least takes food coupons. There are no longer any shoe stores or furniture stores or clothing stores in town. Half of this once thriving steel town is boarded up and empty and desolate. I understand there are a lot of drug problems, too. My youngest has a small apt. there and it is a worry. He works and has a car, but I still worry about him living there. It used to be a safe place. So many factory or steel towns that once thrived are now unsafe and empty of resources.
I don't know what they were thinking by moving the social security building from in town, where these elderly can access it to MILES away. You need a car to get there. A lot of the elderly and poor do not even have a way to get there! I worry about this country. Now the GOP wants to put a corporate raider in the WH. That will be so disastrous. I cannot even believe the damage he could do. What has happened to our Democracy?
Fact: During the Bush "occupancy" of the White House, 1.9 million manufacturing jobs were lost to China.
Fact: The last 23 months of the Obama administration have seen the economy grow and unemployment drop. He did this with an obstructionist GOP congress which refused to help him in any way.

My young daughter is a new mother...we are poor! And, if she needs assistance for her baby she has to spend at least 40 hours in a training program that forces her to look for jobs that are not available...leaving her 8 month old daughter to the care of someone else!!!
Her sister and i are both in school but neither of us have been able to find work...it's really tough living of student debt as an income...Before i can even spend a dime i owe my sole to state!

I live in Indiana where the horrible Governor Mitch Daniels has Privatized the Public Welfare system; sold-out Our tolls roads to India(the Country) ; and, dismantled Our manufacturing base including Whirlpool, where my grand-father retired from in 2000 after working for the company for 40+ years...he now works part-time in a flower shop to supplement his income due to a reduced pension pkg. Whirlpool forced on him when they left!!!
For a while there i thought you and i were from the same city because Our Social Security Department was also moved from a central location to a more restricted less accessible one...

Once towns grew up around its citizens and now they take things further away. Many towns have one store, there's no competition so they can charge what ever they want and this is chain stores as well.
