Indiana House Democrats today ended a three-day boycott of the Legislature over a contentious labor bill but are not promising to stay long enough to allow a final vote on the divisive measure.
House Democratic Leader Patrick Bauer (who appeared on The Ed Show on Thursday, January 5, 2012) told The Associated Press that Democrats are returning "just for today."
Republican Governor Mitch Daniels makes right-to-work legislation his top priority, Ed talks with House Democratic Leader Pat Bauer about the latest developments on Jan. 5, 2012.
Republicans want to make Indiana the first state in more than a decade to enact right-to-work legislation, which bans employment contracts that require mandatory union fees for representation.
House Democrats stalled work at the opening of Indiana's 2012 legislative session last week by denying Republicans the 67 members on the floor they need to conduct any business.
As lawmakers discuss the contentious right-to-work bill in the Indiana House, television ads have begun airing across the state, aiming to sway the public.
Gov. Mitch Daniels fronts an ad supporting right-to-work, saying that the 22 states that have a similar law in place "are adding jobs and income a lot faster than those that don't."
The Indiana Opportunity Fund, which was organized by Jim Bopp, a lawyer and member of the Republican National Committee, paid for the Daniels' commercials. Bopp said his group is not required to disclose the source of its funding.

Ed, Tell the Dem. Leader Patrick Bauer NOT to cave to them. Tell the people of Indiana to protest and get signatures. I am so sick of the all out war waged on workers in America!
If you don't know what all this is about.....IT IS POWER.
If the middle class could wake up like the 99% all across the country...... people of American, we have more power than the rich, lobbyist and the government. I'm not calling for anarchy, I calling the middle class to action no matter what party you are a member of. We are all being manipulated. Our government is being manipulate, and so are we. We need to wake up and be counted. Get the money out. Get those who do not care about the country, or the people who OCCUPY America, out of our way. Talk about taking this country back.....we need to do everything we can in this country to clean house and put things back to right.
There are a few people who belong to the National Chamber of Commerce and ALEC .....WHO HAVE ONLY THEIR OWN INTEREST AT HEART.
Mitch Daniels believes 'right-to-work'
Will provide jobs for those who won't shirk.
He won't realize the joke
is on him and brothers Koch
'Til November helps him learn he's a JERK!
doesn't mitch realize he's digging his own grave?
i agree..don't cave. good ole mitch, defunded planned parenthood and before he was elected a company that he managed of went under and the employees lost pensions jobs etc and the management cashed in sound familiar?
Excellent letter in the New Castle Courier Times about what the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1478 did.
well NV is a right to work state and it has the highest unemployment. thinking most of the other 22 states also fit in this bill.
Putting a list of the 22 right to work for less states on the ad is the biggest selling point against it. Can you name anything great going on in any of them except maybe gambling in Nevada. Its depressing thinking about it. Obviously, it hasn't done anything for them. When will "conservatives" wake up and realize this is just a power grab by the ultra-rich and not support it just because their leadership does.
The Republicans know exactly what the RTW law will do..no matter what their puppet masters are telling them to do. It is a power grab...They're trying to deflate the Democratic contributions while destroying unions. But when they destroy unions, wages and benefits for all, union and non union will go down. Because all wages and benefits are based off of union wages and benefits. Don't know exactly what these rich Republicans like the Koch's, Rove and their foundations have planned, but it's not hard to see they're trying to destroy the middle class.
Thankyou Mom is right...The middle class better get off their butts and start fighting back...No one is going to do it for us. Do your best to education your friends and family to the damaging affect of RTW.
Why not work on recalling Mitch Daniels ??
I don't think Indiana provides for recalls in its constitution.
plus it's his last term
you know we (working poor) have been down this road before(GreatDepression) History shows that the unions & F.D.R fought big business (rich1%) neither one could have done it alone the following 40 yrs was booming the middle class grew by leaps and bounds big business cold not have that so they got Ronald Reagen elected he started busted up the unions. in my home state of PA the steel mills where still making a profit they closed anyhow and moved over seas for cheap labor witch had a devastating fallout it turned great cities into welfare states so we got off our asses and got Bill Clinton elected for 2 terms then we (working poor) grew complacent big business didn't they already owned one party (republicans) with that power they passed some new laws that give them the ability to hedge their bets and buy most of the other party so we get off our asses again and elect the first black president that showed the world how far America has come or did it I'm proud to say i voted for Obama he has changed alot in this great country of ours he hasnt gone far enough though he will get my vote again inless Ron Paul is on the ticket I don't agree with everything he says the one thing that he does say that goes to the very core of being american is "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety"
Daneil's is nothing more than a little man with a large head. Don't bother to recall the little man for he will soon be out of here (thank our lucky stars). He thought it was big time when someone thought he might run for president only to have to beg out in the end. It's hard for me to believe that man actually thought about running knowing full well his wife would have been drug over the coals becasue of there past divorce, how's that for a manly person I might ask?? I hope all the republica's get there asses kicked out in 2012, go Presdient Obama we support you 1000%%%%%
Daniel is nothing more than an ALEC shill, ( google Alec exposed.org), who along with otherALEC infested republiCON governors, are doing their best to downgrade the lives of the 99%, through doing away with democracy in the work place; unions. The best western nation whose economy is thriving is Germany. In Germany the unions have a powerful seat at the table, along with management. They did not outsource their manufacturing and their people are much better off than we are. RepubliCONS never mention the "take care of the general welfare" statement in our Constitution. They do not care about us, thus they are against everything we have that sticks up for us, especially unions.
Ed -- Last Friday the Indiana Republican leadership held a rare joint House/Senate Labor Committee hearing concerning Right to Work. After a request for that video be made available, the House Republican leadership e-mailed me tonight letting me know that video was on their House Caucus page, and not the formal Indiana General Assembly House site!
Here is that video!
G.O.P.(group of phonies) vote the rightees out of office.
I am against Right to Work legislation and I applaud Pat Bauer and the rest of the Democrats for trying to stall this vote. Unfortunately for us in Indiana, Brian Bosma-R, House Speaker and the rest of the Republicans were threatening these Democrats with up to $1000 fines for each day they were gone. So, the Democrats returned on Monday. Now we have to wait and see what their plans are and how they will deal with this. Also, Mitch Daniels isn't seeking re-election this year. We are going from bad to worse cause Mike Pence is seeking to be our governor. I do want to remind everybody, that the Republican Party was touting Mich Daniels as their Presidential candidate. Lucky for the United States he turned it down this time anyway.
We the people want unions. Unions are of the people for the people. Corporations are of the greed for the greed. We the people have been led to believe that unions are bad for the economy. Unions did not get read of tariffs, the GOP killed tariffs. Unions did not deregulate corporations so we can now fund a communist country. Unions did not allow monopoly size corporations to big to fail run our government. We the people must take back our government that is for the people of the people.
The Right To Work for Corporate Greed…
The Right To Freeload on the backs of people peaceably assembling together and
collectively bargaining for better wages and working conditions without paying
a dime towards those efforts…
The Right To Destroy the middle-class of the United States of America…
I must say that it is a brilliant strategy to further undermine our
government through reduced revenues that lower working wages and payroll taxes
bring – thus helping to contribute to the numerous budget emergencies we now
see in all those Right To Work states. They use to call attempts to destroy our
way of life and our government “treason” now it apparently has become accepted
“conservative” political policy!
One can only hope that true political conservatives will wake up and put a
stop to these shenanigans before the United States goes the way of the Roman
Empire…
