"Middle class" Mitt is trying to hide how rich he is. Tonight at 8pET, Ed blows Romney's cover and reveals not only the extent of his personal wealth but also what his tax plan would do to the working poor in this country.

Eugene Robinson, MSNBC Analyst and Associate Editor and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for the Washington Post, will be along for the ride.
The latest poll in New Hampshire shows Rick Santorum has moved into third place behind Romney and Ron Paul, but still at just eight percent. Does he still have a shot at winning or will he have to wait for South Carolina?
Ed will check in with Roger Simon, Chief Political Columnist for Politico, and Jennifer Donahue, Fellow at the Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College and Contributor to the Huffington Post.
Meantime, Santorum still can't explain his comment about "black people." Joan Walsh, Salon’s Editor at Large, and Michael Eric Dyson, Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University and author of "Can You Hear Me Now?," join Ed for that discussion.
Herman Cain was second only to Rush Limbaugh for number of appearances in our "Psycho Talk" segment in 2011. Find out why Mr. 999 is already back in 2012.
The Republican attack on labor resurfaces in Indiana. Ed will ask House Democratic Leader Pat Bauer about how they're fighting back.
And more bad news for Scott Walker as three people with ties to the Wisconsin governor are arrested. John Nichols, Washington Correspondent of The Nation, will have the latest.

mittster why cant you come clean with your tax info ????? just cant afford to be transparent hey ???? and just how much wealth have you made off of the backs of Americans ????? And why did you Dodge the draft of the Viet Nam War ??????? What a GOMER !!! He's Got a Case Of The Big Head !!!!!

Easy =And I'LL Add --Homeland Terrorists / Dictators / Anti-Americans !!!!!!! Common Within The gop/re-bagger party== Hey !!!!
Easy 12, and thats just the first few lines of his resume !!! LOL
Now that's news I had"nt heard hes a draft dodger !!!! They crucified John Kerry for his stance against the war !
If Romney gets into office we'll all be outsourced. I think what Mitt is hiding is the fact that he is actually a robot. You wind him up, activate him and he lays you off. We don't need a corporate raider in the White House! He's no Job creator, he's a downsizer.
@Pam 52, RE:
And tragically ironic at that. Kerry had been in Nam. A good friend of mine who was there too, as a battle-field Medic told me that Kerry was telling the truth, and Baby Bush who wimped his way through the National Guard couldn't handle that truth, so gleefully stood by and let Kerry get Swift-boated so he could get reelected. The only redeeming value of Bush's 2nd term is that he stopped letting Cheney tell him what to do. although letting Rove be his brain largely cancels that out.
@India LeCarre, RE:
You got that right. We certainly don't want Mr. Roboto to be President! His wife, Ann, may have a "soul," but he certainly can't. Not with him misguidedly buying into the "Corporations are People" BS. At most, corporations consist of people. Corporations are created for one main reason, to shield the owners (shareholders) from personal financial loss when the corporation loses money, goes bankrupt, etc.
While people who are members of a corporation have free speech rights, that right is only as people, regardless of being part of a corporation. That's one area where I'm in definite agreement with Buddy Roemer - get money out of Politics - then the unjustifiable equation of money with free speech would be a moot point.
The reps never liked Kerry, because like many of our boys and girls who went to Iraq, he though when he went to Nam he was doing it for his country. When he found out too late, that it was not our war and we should not have been there. He decided to testify against it in the Nixion days. So the republicans tried to make his service look trivial and lied about it.
I would'nt be surprised if they placed all that cash on a alter, then get on their knees and pray to it.
John = I Know Thats Rite - and They make Certain To Keep Their Candles At A Safe Distance -hey !!!! Butt I Wonder Where They Keep their Voo-Doo Dolls !!!!!
John, I believe I read where he may be in trouble with the church if he has"nt tithe what he should have.
I would'nt doubt that one minute Pam. I reckon there are phony mormons just like there are phony christians.
Ed We can hardly wait to here about the rich boys secrets. How rich is he and whats he hiding ?
Keep asking the hard questions Ed!
I agree with Ed. If Mr. Romney is proud of his accomplishments and wants to help other Americans to accomplish similar things, he surely can reveal his income.
Unfortunately, his stance on taxes falls in line with his superficial responses about policy. He just wants the job. Frankly, I think he just ought to go redecorate one or more of his many houses. Mon Dieu, I don't care whether he speaks French. I just want him to act like a real American patriot.
Acts would be the key word there.
If Romney earned his money honorably and if he is sincere in wanting to help other Americans achieve success then why doesn't he come right out and tell us how he did it, how much he has earned doing this honorable work and how he is keeping his tax rate lower the average struggling Americans. Come on give! Help us all out. But sadly I think we know already. He made his money as a corporate raider. Buying up companies, raking off everything profitable including employees pension funds and then laying off (firing the employees. The word I come up with to describe his business practices is shameful, not honorable. His tax report would show he still collects millions from Bain Corporation although he claims he no longer has a connection to it.
OMG, I didn't know Santorum actually said it, I thought he just said it in a way like usual, to make the dog whistle remarks. There is no denying he said I don't want to help "black people" by giving them other peoples' money. As I recall, I do know I heard "black people" and think I wrote the rest of it correctly. ARGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
So there may be a few folks in his own church that might be receiving assistance of a variety of races, including his own. I guess now he will start paying those folks charitably so they don't have to take other peoples' money?
I disagree. I find that Mr. Santorum initially started to say "lives" and then backtracked by reflexively interjecting a word and restating "peoples lives" in order to add context. He presents a relaxed confidence while speaking because, unlike the other top GOP candidates, he seems to actually believe the agenda he is pushing. His comment snippet on your show today, where he doesn't reflexively deny making the statement by accident, is remarkably honest, and basically unheard of in GOP politics today. I think Mr. Santorum will come out of this in a better light among liberals - not difficult since he is so far to the right and his response seems compassionate. Unfortunately, when the far right realizes he did NOT say "Blacks" in a derogatory fashion, he's likely to be painted as a compassionate liberal by the far right.
This seems like a win-lose-lose-win-lose situation for Rick, once you get finished plugging in the open mindedness of liberals to the truth and then plug in the rejection of truth in favor of a doctrine of hatred in GOP politics today. Rick does preach many intolerant GOP principles, but we should call him out on the substance of his platform, not on innocent verbal typos.
You can believe the spin, or you can believe the video, please watch it all the way through.

ISome might claim it was doctored, but I think there is an effort to remove what he did say and put a spin on it. Why couldn't he just apologize and say I will try to be more accurate and then say I meant people, not just black people. Instead, the untrue myth is repeated. That is the issue, NOT that he said the words "black people" in a derogatory manner.
I disagree with you that liberals would see him in a better light and absolutely disagree that what he said was a verbal typo. It is a nuance that us caucasians need to take a look…the furtherance of stereotype by race is not acceptable, especially when the facts do not support what was said.

It is highly offensive to use racial misrepresentations to make a point about something.
We might all agree that it would be better to give jobs to PEOPLE rather than assistance, but where are all these jobs?
Yes, it is a distraction, but it is also a valid point. We could all learn something.
I've grown confident Rick stated, "lives...peoples lives" in that snippet. I'm not interested in researching the background of Mr. Santorum. He is clearly extreme and scary, and I don't want to learn much more about him. I'm only stating what I heard in the original clip, and heard again in the newly linked clip. It is not doctored, best I can tell. It just seems like a verbal stumble with non-derogatory words. Better examples should be cited - though I'm really not interested in following this up. I have limited time to study politics each day, and I'm much happier when I review the latest activities of a Democrat. It's only been in the past two years that I've slowly realized the GOP is corrupt, and only in the past few months that I've realized I'm a liberal. Politics is not my specialty.
Santorum is horrifying but he is just one of many rich politicians. Tactics like Santorum’s have been coming from the richest 1% for years to distract masses of lower-income Americans from the egregious and outright offensive income disparity between us and the top 1%. Try to keep distracting everyone with racial differences and keep us preoccupied with that so we think that the enemies are those people against whom we are fighting. Then when that stops working, use other differences such as nation of origin including fear of immigrants, sexual orientation, union vs. non-union laborers, political ideologies. Anything to divide us all one from another and to prevent us from paying any attention to the massive income consolidation in the top 1% of our population. No matter what differences we may all have from one another, the biggest difference inevitably lies between all of us and the richest of the population.
How right you are. I am still disgusted by the ease at which these things are stated and accepted by so many people.
Yes, distraction. I do not think those in the tippy top incomes really care a whit about the country, any wars or killings, or what party is in power, as long as they collect and retain as much money as possible without regard to the peons that worked for them. Enabling them to collect their spoils, they are not concerned for their essential needs of shelter, food, water, health. There is not one care about the environment, as evidenced by Erin Brockovich.
That's the real Mitt Romney. The one you see in that picture, of him and his Bain buddies. Not the phony regular guy running around the country in his jeans and plaid shirts. He's a life long politician who is out to do what his daddy couldn't do. When John McCain was up there endorsing Mitt, I wonder if he might have been wondering which Mitt was he endorsing?I thought Mitt serve in the war. Did he dodge the draft too?
I agree that Gov. Romney should show his return.
I do however have a suggestion for you and your fellow News Show host. I'm one of those idealist that voted For the President. I think that you and you fellow host show tell us what your income was last year and what you paid in taxes. This will be an opportunity for NBC to show us all which net work is trully "fair and balanced."
I look forward to the results
Ed - I watched your show tonight for the first time and here are my thoughts on the first 10 minutes.
1. You said Mitt Romney is trying to hide how rich he is. We all know he is worth $250 million. He openly admits he is wealthy.
2. The tax chart you put up doesn't account for one MAJOR thing. The money that a tax cut will put in the pockets of wealthy individuals who own businesses and and HIRE middle class people, will be used to HIRE more people and/or raise wages for current employees. So yes, it makes sense that people who gain employment or a raise would pay more in taxes than they were previously paying because they are now making more. Common sense. But I'm sure you took that into account through your thorough, unbiased research.
3. Who cares how much Romney pays in taxes. Why is it even important? What will we do with that information anyways? However, if you're so concerned with seeing Romney's tax plan so you can copy what he did to be successful so that people can "have the same kind of success that he did," (your words) I'd like to see Obama's college transcripts and papers so that I can know where he got such brilliant ideas from so I can understand them and copy them in my own personal life. I think that would be a fair trade. Here is an article on what we learned from Obama's tax return. Please tell me how we can apply it to our lives. #dont-miss-12
4. As far as Romney's investment income getting taxed at a lower rate than typical wage earners. Again, I don't mean to be rude and correct you, but he earned that money being a typical wage earner and has already been taxed on it. The money didn't just show up in his bank account one day. He had to earn it, or he inherited it. Either scenario is a taxable event. How much are you paying on your investment income? Or do you not invest because you don't want to earn income that is being taxed at a lower rate than your less fortunate friends are paying on the income they are earning at their job? By the way, you know when an investor has faith in a company and purchases their stock, it gives that company the ability to hire people and grow their company. That usually = more revenue = more profits = higher wages & more jobs. You know what would happen if no body bought stocks...So don't you want to incentivize people who have money to invest it into a company instead of sitting in their checking account doing nothing?
5. By the way, if someone had cancer, and was looking for a doctor to cure their cancer, do you think one of their criteria would be that the doctor should have had cancer himself in the past? Romney has created tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of jobs. Obama invested $538 million dollars into Solyndra and came out with nothing. Romney invested $5 million dollars and now we have.....STAPLES. Who cares if Romney was never poor or middle class, I'm not understanding how that impacts his ability to understand economics and how to create middle class jobs. Most middle class people work for a rich guy. By the way great video from 17 yrs ago which you translated into a snapshot of who Mitt Romney is. In the words of Kobe Bryant, "that was a bikram yoga stretch."
6. Just want to remind you that Obama went to Columbia and Harvard. Very "blue liner" of him.
If you didn't sound like such a jealous grumpy old man, maybe I would watch you more often......that might be a bikram yoga stretch.
Bravo - very well written.
