Just run for office to promote your book, or your TV show and get all the publicity you need, collect donations for running and get into the spot light. I think the GOP has been full of these disingenuous candidates. The publicity worked well for Sara Palin and Donald Trump. Newt Gingrich has been promoting his book and probably can't believe that he would ever actually get close to having any chance to win the GOP nomination. Cain is still selling a book. Isn't he? He milked his day in the spot light out as long as possible.

What is really sad is how the GOP has tried to dress up these opportunists as viable candidates for office. Is this all they have? Heaven help us if any of these clowns were to actually get in office. Although as I listened to Ed's show for the second time, listening to Ed laugh at the clown show playing out before us. I started wondering if this is all part of a scheme... sort of smoke and mirrors on the Repugs part.

From what I understand, Newt started the whole "obstruct until we get our way" form of GOP philosophy. So the government will go completely to hell if he gets into office. There was some conversation on Chris Matthew's show of how the Repugs can possibly take this bunch seriously as candidates.

One of the others pointed out that the Repugs/TEApugs don't like government, they don't like leaders and they want to destroy the government anyway. Which is why they don't particularly care to have a competent, intelligent person in the White House.

Remember, the last Moron they had in the White House gave them a good start at destroying the government and the country as it existed. They don't want it built up again, just so they have to begin tearing it apart again.

It is Barack Obama who started out from the beginning saying that he would represent all of the American people regardless of political affiliation, race, finances, position, etc. I think he has tried to not show favoritism and to be give fair representative treatment in his policies, etc.

You are correct that most of what these candidates say is gibberish... because most of them speak in talking points. I have never heard some of them like Crazy Lady Bachmann and Sarah Palin answer a single question without using talking points. Yes.... I agree, anyone who thinks Newt Gingrinch sounds smart has to be pretty ignorant. In fact, I was just watching a show on the Current channel earlier, called Two Americas. You all might want to catch a rerun of the show. It's a documentary of 2 American families.... one family is rich... in the 1%. The father is the CEO of an energy company and the mother is a designer and they are rolling in dough.

The other family is struggling financially because both parents have lost their jobs, lost their home and bearly able to pay their bills after long-term Unemployment, though the father is getting unemployment, food stamps, etc. They are living day to day trying to keep their electicity, telephone, internet service, etc from being turned off.

At one point, these families are shown watching one of the GOP debates where Newt Gingrinch makes a statement about how the government should not be having to give money to all of these people who are sitting at home and not working.... blah, blah, blah. The unemployed man pipes up and agrees with Newt saying "He's right."

The producer of the documentary asks him something like, 'doesn't he think agreeing with the things Gingrinch is saying is sort of against his own best interests?' The man says that doesn't matter, and continues to agree that Gingrinch in right. Most likely this guy will vote for Newt or whatever GOP clown is nominated, even though they are all advocating stopping the support of all of the unemployed in the country.

It just goes to show, some people are just so ignorant and gullible, they will continue to vote against their own best interests... even though it is pointed out to them. Some people just can't be helped or influenced to vote for their own best interests. They are hopeless.

I don't know... maybe when they are living in the streets, or one of their children starves to death after the Repugs have cut off their unemployment or food stamps. Maybe then they will learn, uhhh.... maybe we should not have voted for Newt after all.

The republicans only value one thing-protecting the rich and thus maintaining the status quo. Their tired narrative that the rich need to be protected from taxes because they create jobs is classic trickle down nonsense. Ever get to the table after everyone else has eaten? The rich protect their assets-period. This idea that all of the rich are producing jobs is pure hogwash. Most of the corporations that have jobs are shipping them offshore or replacing through automation as fast as they can. The fact of the matter is that job creation is not a goal of any company. Employees are the most expensive liability for any organization. TO the extent that they can maximize profit with less employees, the more efffective they are given their mission. The only people who are interested in job creation are those who need jobs and those who are truly altruistic. Repugs tend to be neither.

DScully: #3.12, That is so sad and so typical. You really need to read a book called, WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH KANSAS?, by Tommy Frank. It was written in 07 I believe. (I have it here in my library) It goes into detail about how Kansas fell apart after voting almost strictly for the GOP and how none of their interests were served, but they kept on doing it. He is from Kansas and his nice old neighbourhood is gone, the stores are boarded up, and people are unemployed. If he had written that book today, he'd have to call it, WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH AMERICA? It tells how Kansas was hoodwinked by the righties. It is so disturbing, and now it is happening everywhere. It was written before OBAMA was heard of nationally.
