Republicons use people to get what they want. They will use Immigration as it suits them and then shove everyone who is not a billionaire aside when they have achieved their ugly, fascistic goals.

Republicans do not want to have a humane policy for poor Americans who are their people too, and they will not have a humane for immigrants unless they are H1B visas who work for less than the experienced Americans. Corporations demand we train them and them they lay us off to hire them. Republicans only think with their pockets. And corporations fill their pockets.

H1B visas are given to the top 20% of their country. People who do not need to better themselves because they are already controlling the wealth in their country.

So what happened to all our post we made earlier? They kept coming and going.....Now they are gone?

I said something Like: Who will they want to throw out of the country next? Will it be the poor and the elderly?

David, a very thought provoking sonnet. That beautiful lady who stands in that harbor has welcome immigrants for decades, I think she will cry tears now.

She welcomed them to come legally. Once immigration laws were passed they should have been upheld instead of a wink and a turn of the head.

I have no problems whatsoever if a person comes here legally, but for all of the illegals that somehow think they deserve something for disobeying our laws, I have little sympathy.

Immigration reform should be focused around the immediate family and the needs of the country. The family should be immediate family, limited to children under 18 and or spouses. Sponsorship should not include a persons' second cousins' great uncle! I would bet that if this were the law you would find that familys would be joined together in a faster time than what it takes now.

Also when it comes to work visas, the first should be for the migrant workers that come to pick produce. They should be then sent back to whichever country they came from and wait for the next season. They nor any other illegals should be allowed to stay and pop out kids with the expectation that this will somehow lead to a legal status.

We as a country can not accept anyone that wants to come. The fact is unemployment is high and will remain that way, so why add to the mix by allowing illegals to stay and work?

As for other work Visas make the company prove they can't find competent help here in the U.S. Make them prove that the person they are bringing over is the only one that can do the job and make them prove that that person or people are already trained and ready to take that position. Also make that company set up a training program to train legal residents to do the job and make the work Visas very temporary.

The fact is there is no new industrial revolution on this country's horizon so millions of illegals are not needed when we already have an immigration system that allows over 1 million people to come here legally each year.

The humane thing to tell immigrants who haven't got a chance in HELL of being successful in the USA is the truth, that they will not make it in America.

1. They don't speak English. They won't make it in America.
2. They're computer illiterate. They won't make it in America.
3. They have no High School Diploma. They won't make it in America.
4. They have no marketable job skills. They won't make it in America.
5. They can't even make a living in a third world country. They won't make it in America.

What's INHUMANE is telling people who don't know how to drive, can't even read a job application, has no personal resources of any sort, and no capability of learning even the simplest jobs we've got in the USA to come on in and FAIL MISERABLY. They wind up living in slums and ghettos and barrios, among the worst dregs of our society, only to be victimized by crime because immigrants can't even communicate with American police.

Only college graduates who speak English and have marketable skills should be allowed to immigrate. Everyone else who tries it fails miserably.

Many of our earlier immigrants spoke no English, couldn't read English, had no schooling to speak of. Many settled here and they made it. There was one school who had night school for immigrant children, they were taught English and got an education. Many of them became prominent citizens, one that I know of because superintendent of the county school system here, also the mayor of a local town. All of his siblings went to college and his sister became principal of one the of the schools here. His parents started a floral shop years ago and it is still flourishing today. Their children kept it going after their parents passed away. I would say that all of them came here with nothing and now they are very well off. They worked hard and set high goals for themselves. Don't lump all immigrants into the same mold. Some may never make it, but a good many will!

I think we forget that today is a day we have because of immigrants leaving there homeland and coming to a new world full of hardships. America is a name given to this country by Amerigo Vespucci. The native Americans were here first. I think we need better immigration reform but will we ever get it?They just want hope for better day. The Republicans can"t even get behind themselves let alone those that come to our shores. Many of them want to be here legal and then there are those who do not. Mean Gene: That is about the most racist thing I think I have read on here yet. Americans don't want to do hard labor jobs that immigrants do such as working in the fields. There are plenty of low education skill jobs that we Americans feel we are either too superior or to good to do. Since immigration laws in Alabama and Florida have gotten strictor the fruit s rotting on the vine because fruit farmers can't find enough people who are willing to work for them wages. Just because someone doesn't speak your language don't mean they ae Autistic. They can learn but is anyone willing to teach them?

austininc4: I'll second that. As we gather today around the table to celebrate, hundreds of Mexican women are separated from their children by our policies. Some are in jail for no more than a parking ticket and they have no legal rights. They often have their children taken into adoption by US authorities and never see them again. Our system is currently horrible and will get more inhumane under the GOP. As a member of Amnesty International, I suggest you go to our website. We can always use more members. We are a human rights organization.

India, I read your post and how do we go to that site? can you give more details. It is so sad that this is happening in the land who is suppose to be free. We are more humane for animals and dogs and cats than human beings. We never hear about those rounded up and sent back to Mexico if when they cross the boarder are they killed by drug cartel ? For there children its so sad. What the answer is I don"t know but somebody has to tackle the problem in stead of kicking the can down the road don"t you think ?

CDW - My mom is a LEGAL immigrant from Italy.She did NOT come into this country by sneaking across the border.I have no problem with immigrants(as long as they are LEGAL)But it is true that a lot of the ILLEGAL immigrants are taking away jobs from people who are currently unemployed and not paying TAXES(payroll).I also blame the people that HIRE them and PAY under the table.

There have been fewer stupid questions than this one. "Comprehensive" immigration reform was non-starter on both sides of the aisle so why do you ask if the GOP can do this? It seems to me that the vast majority of American people - left or right - already said "no."

Enforcement of current law is what's required. Rewarding law breakers is not the answer despite this silly quesion.

There was a double posting and everything on the first posting was deleted. I had just made a post when it happened and my post was ate. Capt was repeating that same old tired republican lie that the republicans do better then democrats on deficits. You know the long debunked lie that tax cuts pay for themselves. I also came across some old stuff from 11 days after Obama took office low and behold the republicans were already making the claim that Obama spent more then GWB in his first 11 days in office then GWB did in 8 years BOL. What capt key board was posting had nothing to do with the topic, he was just using it to post his usual attacks on democrats.

For a while there was an earlier blog. I still had it up. and then this one came on. So I went back and was writing a short note to refer people to this one....and it took me to a page that said this page deleted by author? now it is completely gone.
