In his first Republican presidential primary debate since surging to frontrunner status in the polls, Newt Gingrich may have stepped in. The former House Speaker tonight said he favors amnesty for illegal immigrants.
"I don’t believe that the party that says its' the party of the family is going to say it’s going to destroy families that have been here for more than a quarter of a century,” he said. "I'm prepared to take the heat in saying: Let's be humane in enforcing the law."
That may get him in a whole lot of trouble with conservatives.
Tonight at 11pm, Ed checks in with Jim Moore, co-Author of "Bush's Brain" and Huffington Post Contributor, Krystal Ball, Democratic strategist and former candidate for U.S. Congress, Joe Madison, Sirius XM Radio host and Lawrence Korb, a Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress and the Former Assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan.

Thankful, I told another poster the other day that putting children back to work is a very slippery slope. I had a great uncle that was killed working in the coal mines at 9 years old. They may start giving children jobs at sweeping floors at less than minimum wage, but before long they would have them working in jobs that most adults wouldn't want to do. We can't let it go back to that again. They want this country to regress instead of progress. It is pathetic. I can't figure out what goes on inside their brains. I probably would be sick if I actually knew.

First thing out of Newt mouth was, GET RID OF UNIONS, hire children to do the work of the janitors in our schools. Also he said the Protestors did not pay for the Parks or sidewalks so they can be treated in any way to move them out. Newt, these are Taxpaying students who are trying to get a education. India she was on earlier on the poll vine. I had been worried about her. She said that she had been having trouble all week logging on to Ed's site. Come to find out a lot of us have been have various problems with the vine this past week. I was glad that she was ok.

Funny thing about the stupidity of those who have worked those so called soft jobs like custodians, they are not soft jobs they were labeled as soft jobs by people who think cleaning buildings is on par with cleaning homes, another words womans work. Custodial work is back breaking and requires more skill then just sweeping and mopping floors. First off you have to have a working knowledge of the type of floors you are cleaning then knowing which cleaners you can use safely and which floors the cleaning chemicals can not handle. Putting bleach on cement for example creates a chemical reaction with the lime in cement which release chloride gas. Then you are using industrial strength cleaners which are toxic. Custodians suffer lung damage from long term exposure to industrial cleaners, as well as back problems, leg problems and feet problems. So screw you Mitt kids can not handle cleaning schools safely.
whomitmay, I worked in the school system for years. One of the schools that I worked at was a very small elementary school. The custodian was off for weeks after having surgery so we all chipped in to keep up the building while she was off. I have to say that NO child could do that work. Those disk scrubbers and waxers are the devil to work with. They will beat you do death until you get the feel of them. I also agree with you about the cleaners, you mix the wrong ones and you are in trouble. One of the women mixed bleach with one of the cleaners and I swear that bucket had smoke coming out of it. I will say one more thing. NEWT IS A NUT!!!

obviously you don't remember the health care debate that was on television for all to see. even fox news said that the republicans needed to stay away from the president, because he "knows everything". President Obama does not need a teleprompter when he debates. i am sure that newt is/would be scared to death of debating the president, just as mitt romney should be.
you all love to bring up the "teleprompter" for this, that, and the other thing, and now for debates? you have seen him in debates with republicans, which he always wins hands down. i wouldn't worry so much about a teleprompter. instead, if i were you, i would worry morry about newt getting mixed up on the many lies he tells, and mitt getting confused about his flip-flops.

romney used a teleprompter recently when he delivered a major speech on foreign affairs at the Citadel. wow, i never heard a word about that. and sometimes they use notes, or look at what is written on their hand. what! they can't deliver a speech from memory?unbelievable.
President Obama was invited to a republican retreat in jan. of 2010 I believe, and during the health care debate, both of which are available for viewers. he didn't use a teleprompter for those. that is why the republican party is so afraid of a debate with President Obama. he knows everything. he uses a teleprompter when giving a speech, in place of notes or writing on his hand.

i thought the argument that newt and mitt were having over the individual mandate at a recent debate was very amusing. neither one wanting to take credit for it, but clearly admitting to anyone who cared to listen with an open mind, that the individual mandate was/is a republican idea, brought to the table by President Obama to try to get republicans to vote on the health care plan.
i don't understand how the republicans/baggers on this blog do not see the disdain by the republicans of our President. when we see time after time the republicans filibustering ideas that they have brought to the table, or supported in the past, and we know that they have only voted with the president 5% of time, how do we not deduce that this is hatred for our President? I would suspect that you all agree with their open hatred for our president and do not see their bigotry. even though the democrats disagreed with and did not like W. bush, they respected the "office" of the presidency and voted with him 51% of the time. as president, you may not get everything you want, but the president is not the only elected official in washington. everyone there was elected to work for the american people, and not to worry specifically about giving President Obama "a win".

It is certain that Newt is intelligent. However, for a man who claims to be an historian, (in fact is a lobbyist) he showed an odd grasp of the facts regarding the end of WWII last night. Having done numerous school papers on that subject, I know that it was not oil that ended that war, but atomic energy in the form of two bombs dropped on Japan in August of 1945. The first on Aug. 6, the second on Aug.9. The Emperor surrendered days later.When Newt ended his sentence about Iran with, "That's how we won WWII", I said "Really?!" News to me!

I still say...Obama has had his chance and we are in a mess. Even if he has the solution...he is unable to put it into place. If he gets re-elected this country is done. We cannot tolerate another 4 years of mounting debt and spending increases. The proposed spending "decreases" are just a decrease in the increase. The spending per year needs to decrease. There are things we can do to the tax code to increase revenue by taking out loopholes for GE but even that is a drop in the bucket. Our spending is out of control. China will overtake us economically and militarily.
TAP: I actually got an E-mail from Mary Kaye Huntsman last evening reminding me Jon would be debating! Wow....I felt so special!! I thought he did well last night, actually stood up to Romney at one point. He is so much more informed than anyone else on that stage, it is a joke for him to be nearly ignored due to the ultra-right's idea of a conservative.

India-Wow that is really cool. I though Huntsman looked very good as well. His foreign policy knowledge was very impressive. I would have no problem voting for him. I just don't get all the comments about how the GOP candidates are all stupid. I guess it is from the source of their news. I know that they do their best to point out every blunder that they have ever done, while Obama can do no wrong. Not very fair and balanced if you ask me. That being said, Perry has no business in this race. He does seem very slow witted. You will notice that he did not get much in the way of applause. Ron Paul scares the crap out of me with his foreign policy. I would have a real problem voting for Paul or Perry.

On Willard Mitt Rommney, when is this guy going to answer a question, last night he danced around the immigration issue saying he will not provide illegals with amesty. The question was "What will you do with the 11 millions illegal immigrant" Not what you will not do? When Jon Hunstman challanged him somewhat on Afganistan, he was flustered. When Rick Perry challanged him two or three debates ago he blurted "I can't have illigals working for me, I'm running for office for pete sake" he can not take any pressure if the moderators would do their jobs and demand answers from him instead of letting spout his rehearsed comments on every question, maybe we would start to see the real Mitt Rommney. Look, honestly, I cannot wait to vote for President Obama, but I want to see a true debate from the GOP, and I know President Obama can hold himself against anyone of them, but I would like to see a real debate between what the direction the GOP wants to take vs President Obama, a real debate please. We have a serious President, the GOP needs to come up with a real opponent, so far it's been silly season.

Roads, you have a pot hole in front of your house, I guess either you repair it or call someone to repair for you. Who will build new roads and bridges as they start to collapse and grumble?
