Have we become a fascist society? Is pepper-spray the new all-in-one crowd control device? How does a seated protester linking arms with others cause police officers to be or feel threatened?
Take a look at how prisons review their pepper-spray use, and guidelines for censure if used on seated prisoners.
They sprayed them people like they were killing roaches. This is going to get ugly folks.
Everyone I know in law enforcement say that is to be used on someone violent and resisting arrest. Some people are even very allergic to it. In some cases it has cause the person to go into a coma. I think that if the majority do not support this movement the states will resort to abusing because they will believe that the majority agrees with the establishment and their policies of protection of wealth. If this is the kind of country we want? The constitution gives us the right to protest peacefully but if even when we do that we are injured then on what side should we be? History has shown that we have been working for the protection of the wealth of the wealthy for the last 50 years.

Michael Moore was on Lawrence tonight and he said the Stormtrooper cops are outfitted by a grant from Homeland Security. And the pepper spray they used on those college kids is way more potent than the old stuff. The reason I started paying attention to politics was Jesse Ventura's Conspiracy Theories. One of the episodes said to beware of Homeland Security and one of the reasons was for just this very thing about the cops. If any of you had watched his shows, you can see some of this starting to come true. Go to YouTube and check his shows out. They are real eye-openers.

Nothing to fear but fear itself! So, just in case, we will use pepper spray. Are these students criminals? I don't think so. Why don't we just spray the criminals in congress who sign a tax pledge and are NOT upholding the Constitution.
I think we should start by hanging Grover Norquist for treason and tell the others in Congress to renounce that pledge or they'll be hanging right beside him!

He has been known to fund Leftist movements around the world.I have not heard what he has done lately evidentally not enough.

I, like a lot of Americans didn't pay attention to politics. I used to think it was dull. Not anymore. But whatever you think Soros has done can't be any worse than what the rich on the right are doing.
Norquist is an anarchist at heart. He has the right to feel that way, but he has no right to demand pledges from Congressional Representatives such that those representatives feel that they have an obligation to uphold No New Taxes even if it meads they have to violate the oath pf office upon being sworn into office at the beginning of every term. In effect then, Norquist is guilty of something akin to mutiny. While the legal system may find it difficult, if not impossible to find him criminally liable, he claims some responsibility for the fact that taxes have not been raised in quite a while. As such, he would bear some responsibility far the Great Recession, but moreso for the difficulty in recovering from that recession, by extension, for some of the lost jobs and foreclosures.
Perhaps, a team of pro bono lawyers sympathetic with #OWS might see about starting a class-action lawsuit against Norquist for his insistence that legal mechanisms that enforce the continued inequities which ensure the unjustifiable inequalities in the distribution of wealth have not only killed the American Dream for millions of Americans, but has caused them to lose net income which instead floods up to the ultra-rich who are already so wealthy they can't spend what they have.
MJB- Making solid attempt to bring down England as a whole in order to make an obscene profit himself, I guess, qualifies him as a hero to the Left. He almost succeeded. And it would have taken him from the 4th richest person in the world to the richest.
Are the Republicans putting in place policies that will keep the white wealthy in power when the white race is no longer in the majority? Are we being too short sighted with what is happening in America?

It is a good thing you are asking. History shows that is the case. First unions were allowed. White middle class was born. Then when minorities started getting the same kind of jobs, things started to go bad. First, you could assume a mortgage, when minorities started buying property, they abolish the simple assumption program and homes started going up in market value. Gasoline use to be 19 to 27 cents a gallon. Then they created a crisis, there was not enough gas at 69 cents a gallon, but there is enough gasoline at $3. per gallon. All this have had a bigger effect on minorities. Sure some minorities have done well but those are the ones who have always belong to the top 20%.

Ed - when are you going to fairly address the Jon Corzine crimes with the missing $1.2 Billion dollars and his tight ties to Obama. Not long ago Obama was touting Corzine's great financial management and just weeks ago Corzine was raising big bucks for the Obama election effort. Democrats seem to have gone silent on the scandal with Obama running away hard.

And gee, it seems the only records about the missing money were destroyed at the Pentagon that day! And the only other records were guess where?? One of the Twin Towers! Coincidence?? Doubt it. After 911 the money was never mentioned again. So don't try to put everything on Obama.
Social Security - soon to go broke. Medicare - soon to go broke. Poverty - increasing. Education - failing. Health Care - costs skyrocketing with a Trillion dollar tax increase soon with Obamacare a growing debt and almost bankrupt nation. Yup socialist liberals have sure done it but voters have caught on and are working to stop the big government tax and spend programs. Next year Obama and Harry Reid get the boot.

The changes that pseudo conservative republicans support either knowingly or by accident which would end with the transformation of America into a theocracy, the end of public education, the death of social security, support for half baked foreign policy ideas will if it succeed be the first nail in the coffin of American society.
No GOP candidate has put forward any solutions to the America's problem save for the same old debunked rhetoric of deregulation and manipulation of the tax structure that favors the wealthy.
The only reason our social safety net is collapsing is because the republicans are sabotaging it.

Social Security will still be solvent for 20+ years, longer once the unemployment rate is back down. It's the loss of jobs caused by the Wall Street banksters (gambling, casino-style, with money that wasn't theirs to risk) which lead to the Great Recession.
While means-testing is necessary, an age increase would be unfair to the blue-collar workers whose bodies have broken down and don't have the life expectancy that the white-collar workers have. It's also not feasible to categorize age eligibility by kind(s) of job(s) a worker has had as some people, like me, have had both blue- and white- collar jobs. One year doing hard labor will generally be more physically deleterious than 10 or 20 years as a manager (presuming that the manager gets sufficient physical exercise to stay physically fit).

Ed, Thank you for your excellent coverage of events at UC Davis. More on the link between tuition increases and the 99% movement, since you asked about it: The UC (and CSU) systems have been starved by the state for some time. This is thanks to right-wing GOP refusal to raise taxes. (A 2/3 majority is required for tax increases here, and, as blue as California now is, it isn't that blue.) And this refusal persists despite a majority of Californians' support for higher taxes for education. We at the university have had our salaries held down, we have been furloughed, programs and staff have been cut; there is nothing more to cut without undermining quality. (Well, maybe administrative salaries, but that won't be enough.....) Thus the tuition increases. I think it should be noted that students whose family incomes fall below a certain level (I think is is about $80,000--but that should be checked) receive substantial financial aid. Of course, the university should be free, as it was before Ronal Reagan.
The chancellor should be made to resign, and every one of the police involved fired. What was done to these students who had the right to protest, this was not only uncalled for, it was over kill.
Ed what i saw is ridiculous. We are not a third world country where authorities treat citizens any how they want. This is not a right/left issue. I'm pissed seeing fellow Americans treated this way and i lean right. I'm not stupid or crazy to see ideology in this. These officers should be tried and jailed for assault if convicted. I am so appalled by this. Our country is deteriorating.........we the victims on both left and right need to come together for everyone is congress is rich and do not care much..........

Isn't it funny that people want to talk about unions, or this group of protesters, or some other group, or who ever they want to argue contribute to the nation's problems and don't get me wrong there are some valid arguements out there but isn't clear that there is one group of people that we all believe are doing wrong by us(us being the American people)
Why is it that nobody seems to wanting to go after Congress for all the problems that we all know they are causing for us? Some body should go after their paychecks and retirement 'cause I don't think there is anyone who could argue they are not bankrupting the nation with their various failures and scandals
Let's give Congress a pay cut and we should continue to cut their pay until they show us they are serious about doing the jobs they are there to do
