Don't know if you saw Obama's press conference on Friday, but he was quite forceful and angry in that address as he was explaining what had once again caused a break down in negotiations. At least as angry as a guy as cool as he usually is does get.

In this address... he was coming directly to the American public with the facts of the situation and giving us a chance to make our voices heard. It was a more formal address and he's not angry with the public, so there was no reason for him to show anger in this speech.

The Republicans are obstructing Government and since they have been aiding and giving comfort to our enemies they can be and should be tried for treason according to the Constitution, Article iii section 3.

I haven't voted on this one yet. Of course my fist impulse is to vote that they want the failure of the president.... And they do, but there is something they want more. Debt reduction isn't even first.

I think what they want most, though, is an item on their agenda that they have been after for a very long time. That is to dismantle the Social Security System ... To distroy it. They were on a run under Bush and got almost everything on their agenda...... But this one got away and they are not giving up on it.

Bush attempted to privatize the Social Security System. Bush failed to get that done. They have taken this extreme stance holding the debt ceiling hostage, holding Obama over a barrel, just to destroy the Social Security System. That is their primary goal. The debt gives them the excuse to attack it. That is why they gave away the surplus as fast as they could, and spent like drunken sailors while Bush was in office. They knew, they had no chance of attacking entitlements while there was a surplus. If they fail to dismantle, (under the gun of raising the debt ceiling), it this time around they will try again when they hold the office of the president. So it is vital to them get the office of President in 2012. Thet have entitlements in their cross hairs.

Another problem with the newly elected TEA party yahoos is that many of them were actually lobbiests for big corporations before running for their offices, so they are not actually average "grassroots" people. I have a feeling the real grassroots people who voted for them, didn't check into their real backgrounds before voting for them.

Of course they want to destroy the Social safetynet programs... all of them. Not just Social Security, but Medicare and Medicaid. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to bring down the Veteran's administration if they could. They don't want anyone getting a free ride or any kind of government health care. Except the rich of course, they'll give all the free rides to the rich they can in the way of tax cuts and subsidies.

But running up the deficit like they did when Bush was in office, and making sure taxes aren't raised on the rich, they keep the economy bad... which is all part of their alternate plan for destroying those social programs. If they can't destroy the social programs themselves by getting them repealed or dismantled... like through the Ryan budget, then by starving the government of revenue they starve the programs. Either way... they get the same result.

I believe we saw some of those elderly Republican's at some of the town meetings Paul Ryan and other Repugnicons representatives had during Easter break when they went home right after their votes for the Ryan budget. There have also been polls done showing that the GOP have lost elderly voters support since then also. Many have said in those polls that they will now vote Democratic. They now realize that the GOP are not working for them and want to destroy Medicare and Medicaid for their children and grandchildren. No. Because there growth is unstable and they are still barely working with coal. In fact you cannot be successful in this new world order without Americas buying and spending power. We hold all of the cards plus we are STILL the worlds only super power. You see with these low taxes for imports we hurt ourselves and any self respecting business man will leave our shores. Higher taxes will insure those un patriotic rich fools are made to look it. And they will have to move back to America shores to stay solvent and competitive. Those in our government who stick up for our low taxes on imports are by extension favoring endorsing and loving China India and other countries before they love us there own brethren.

I disagree with you it is the Republicans who have caused this divide. This is a simple raise the debt ceiling. If you have watched Ed you know how many times this has been done in the past, it's not a big deal, its normal business. His "in your face" attitude is not an attitude at all, he is simply lying out the facts. You may have voted for those who are against his fair and balanced approach, but I voted for those who are for the fair and balanced approach. You can't make the middle class pay for everything when the big oil companies and hedgefund folks are raking in the dough. They say cut pell grants and cut out the student loan subsidies, do so and thousands of low income and lower middle income young people will never be able to better themselves. If it weren't for those two programs I would still be making 6-7 dollars an hour and trying to raise 3 children. Instead I make $18 an hour and I'm still having a hard time raising my family, but I am proud of the fact that I have a good education and a job that I can be proud of. I was able to show my children that hard work can pay off, and make them realize how important education is for their futures.

Bottom line, it's fine to cut spending but first cut out all the big subsidies like oil and then see how much cutting is still needed. If you look you will find out that simply letting the Bush tax cuts expire will create 5 trillion more dollars in income over a period of years. I'm willing to give up my measley $8 that I got with those cuts, why aren't the rich?

Chuck - I am forgetting nothing. I didn't like the debt increases then and I don't like it now and I have written my politicians over the years both democrat and republican to voice my concern. I live in a neighbor hood of mostly independent voters with no strong political connection - mostly white, asian and middle eastern. They all voted for Obama. Now, every single one I talk to say never again. I have to say that I did have a hand in helping a few of them see the light.
