You are, indeed, entitled to your opinion. However, the judiciary is not there to undermine the will of the people. That's exactly what happened in this case.
I would say it's the same thing as Roe vs. Wade, but it's not. In THAT case, the people were NEVER afforded the opportunity to vote. The SCOTUS shoved the law down the throat of the people and now there are 50 MILLION less children in the world.
I don't want to argue the issue of abortion or gay marriage. What I'd like to do is educate some of you folks on the separation of powers between the three branches of government. The founders set it up this way so that sort of thing could never happen. Of course, as the founders called it "the despotic" branch, i.e. the judiciary, has morphed into FAR more than the founders intended.

The idea of the free market system had its first form of public break down on Saturday. As the FAA went unfunded due to a Congress consisting of the very worse, major airlines opted to increase ticket prices and capture even more money from consumers. The free market assumption was, if companies do not have to pay taxes or additional fees; this savings would be passed onto the consumer! Yeah right!

When the wealth have been distributed so unfairly for at least 50 years due to the policies how can we reason that the redistribution of wealth is bad.. We know that there have been distribution of wealth...The policies are designed to keep the rich richer and the poor on the increase and the middle class on the decrease. So, who in the majority of the population (since the wealthy are only from 1-20% of the population who control 90% of the wealth)( and we are at least 80%) would want to keep the distribution as it is? That is moronic and idiotic thinking. Why are the majority in this country such schmucks and push overs that they let their policy makers do that and then those who are in charge get paid to protect someone else's wealth?
Is it just me who sees the truth of the matter? Just think they have distributed the wealth among themselves for more than 50 years. The majority that is you and I, have paid them to do so. They are not going according to societal rules of morality. There are some of them who have already reasoned (on their own, which is a feat) that it is immoral. Yet the majority of people do not see it????
I am not saying to take away from the rich to give the poor but let's design policies to help level the plain field. If they have enjoy for more than 50 years controlling 90% of the wealth why cant they now share 80% of the so called sacrifice.

Ed, you're a nice person, but could you please stop letting the Republicans run with their unfactual talking-points? One guy said these two points:
1). Republicans were voted into office after the 2010 elections and are just doing what the people voted them to do.
a). Nobody ran on Union-stripping. What's happening isn't everything that was talked about on the campaign trail. That's why the recall elections are going on in Wisconsin, it's not just/only democrats; if that were the case, then with the 2010 voting numbers, there wouldn't be enough to get them started in the first place. People who voted Republican are joining in.
b). Democrats were voted in by a VAST majority in 2008. The Republican response was to obstruct, deny, slowdown, and obfuscate everything that the Democrats were trying to do. The Republicans were sore losers and became the "Party of No" that rebranded themselves as "Teabaggers" and had hissy fits at the drop of a tea-bag covered hat.
2). Democrats had control but didn't pass a budget, didn't pass etc.
a). See ltr. B above. The Republicans dragged their feet as much as possible, having temper tantrums and holding up congress. It's only fair that if a Republican is going to castigate the Wisconsin 14 for leaving the state, the Republican had better - in the same breath - castigate his or her party for not doing their job between 2008 and 2010.
I have some issues with how you're framing the debt ceiling debate, but that's a separate critique.

Drew - that's an interesting viewpoint and it drives a couple of simple questions;
Since the dems were voted in by a "vast majority," and held the house, the senate and the white house, WHY DIDN'T they get anything done except more and more spending? How can you POSSIBLY blame the GOP for the inaction of the democrats. That' the most ridiculous logic imaginable. The Republicans could not have obstructed because the dems controlled everything. STILL NO BUDGET FROM Harry Reid. He claims we "don't need a budget." WHAT???!!???
Secondly, the People in EVERY poll were against Obamacare (some polls by as much as 68-30 with about 2% undecided and others where it was 54% against) yet the Speaker of the House - THIRD IN LINE FOR THE PRESIDENCY - stood before the American People and said "We need to pass the bill so you can read what's in it." Despite the People's wishes, the tyrannical left passed it anyway. Of course, any "friends" of Obama have been given waivers. You like this?

That aside, I'll have to chide you, Ed, for believing that, "No revenue increases as long as the Big 3 are untouched" is okay. President Obama (D?) put them on the table in the first place. This seems to be the strategy for the entire presidency so far: put something REALLY bad on the table so it makes the other stuff look palpable. How about we get rid of the tax loopholes, increase revenue, AND leave the Big 3 out of it, no thanks to Obama? Sounds like a winning position to me - Oh, and save all that for August 3rd. The Debt Ceiling and Debt are two separate issues that the Republicans have conflated together in order to get Obama out of office - which baffles me since he's the best republican President I've ever seen in my life (born under Regan). Clean vote or 14th Amendment followed the next day by the budgetary deficit talks absent The Big 3 except for streamlining of the process and not cuts to services or availability.

Ed, Would like to see you interview Janny Scott, a NY writer and author of the book "A Singular Woman: The untold Story of Barack Obama's Mother". In her research she found out Obama Lied about his mother NOT being covered by insurance because tha had a pre-existing condition! Lie her cancer treatments were FULLY COVERED by her employer's insurance! what was not covered was disability. Moreover, Obama had NOT seen his mother in MONTHS and didn't see her until a day AFTER she had died! He told this lie to push his healthcare bill that no one wants and over 1500 people, union menbers and special cronies have opted out of! The judicial system is there to uphold the law. Show me in the constitution where it says "except for gays". Equal rights is intended to be just that, EQUAL. I fought in Viet Nam for this country and it's people. Not right wing, left wing, white, black gay, straight, but ALL the people. The SCOTUS also interprets the Constitution and the meaning of the founders intent, not congress, not the president not the Citizens, to prevent illegal law's being passed that restricts the peoples right's. Fact of the matter is no one in Congress with any significant amount of influences cares about the budget or the economy. That includes Cantor, Boehner, Reid and Obama, frankly all of them are far too interested in trying to through blame around as opposed to actually doing their jobs. Simply reality is we have a mess, a big mess, so naturally we need people to clean it up. We need janitors you might say. Think for a moment does a janitor investigate and try to hunt down the person who made the mess? No, because is not to investigate their job is to clean it up not asign blame. Blame games don't fix problems.
The Republican controlled house of reps. under John Boehner has been rather unproductive, a couple weeks ago they were lightbulb regulations some body want to explain to me what the hell that has to do anything important? The idea that someone only one house of congress is failing the people is laughable.
On the topic of gay marriage that should be up to the person and their church the government has no need nor right to interfere. If the union is between two consenting adults the federal government does not need to try to tell others what to think. The entire stupid moral debate on the topic is a real example of big government, government telling you what your morals need to be.
I find it to be very interesting that just now both want to put out an actual plan. These people deserve a major paycut, as a matter of fact I'd say that needs to be on the ballot ASAP

Actually it was unions that brought down the wall in Berlin. After a union leader became president to Poland the USSR economy crumbled. Why did the USSR economy crumble, the war in Afghanistan and trying to keep up an over priced military, the USSR found itself unable to nation build. The rabid righties try to claim the victory for Reagan, but Reagan had nothing to do with the internal workings of the USSR nor was Reagan in office when either the wall or the USSR collapsed. Nor did anything Reagan do lead to the collapse, he just made a speech. It happened because of bad economic policies within the USSR political machine and years of deficit spending. Gee where is that happening today.

Ed, tell the people the real deal,see they are'nt really understanding the horrow of whats going down, if you worked hard to keep your credit in good stander, lets say you're at 5.2% if the debt ceiling fall you will go to 7or 9% if your house note is $900 a mo. it will raise to $1,400 a mo. people are thinking that oooH! it may go up a couple of dollars, they are not thinking a couple of thousands dollars if U.S.A credit go up this is what we are looking at.
