Mitt Romney's appearance at the shuttered Allentown Metal Works today is meant to highlight the failure of the economic policies of Pres. Obama, who once visited the plant, spotlighting it as a symbol of hope for the economy.
Here's the problem with Romney's news conference there. If you go back and read contemporary accounts of the Allentown Metal Works closing, you'll see a consistent theme. They had to close because there wasn't enough stimulus. So Romney's big economic message today is centered around a symbol of the need for more stimulus.

maybe he can tell them how he is unemployed as well.
just wish the owner of the Allentown Metal Works, would come out a say well Mitt can i call you that (smiles better then DICK) if only we had more stimulus we could have been well on our way out of this mess, people like you Mitt put us in.
Wonder when the execs at msnbc are going to wise up and present some honest hosts. Can't believe that you replace one liar for another when Al Sharpton appears as a guest host for the other liar Ed Shultz ! I guess the folks at msnbc have forgotten "The Reverend's" Tawana Brawley fiasco. How many more hosts and anaylists are going to be fired or suspended before you execs wake up.
Ed has backed up his statements. Are you going to back up yours? I also notice you must watch his show and like using his blog to bitch.
The fact that so many Faux News Trolls are showing up here to spew their, ignorant, racist hate speech ( which at least on MSNBC the are free to do ) is proof that some really good work is being done here by Ed, Rachel, Lawrence, Chenk, Chris, and many more.
They would not be here if there wasn't a real impact being made on society . . .
So let them spew . . . not only are their rants hilarious . . .
It helps the rest of make our points about their love of America but hatred for Americans.
LOL,,,,
its good to have a laugh a day.
thanks.
You know absolutely nothing about economics. Please stop embarrassing yourself.
The reason government stimulate the economy with direct spending is because for every $1 the government spends, $1 is pumping into the economy. This causes production and consumption to go up, which spurs hiring in order to accommodate demand, meaning unemployment goes down.
It's simple demand-side economics. Unfortunately, we're a nation that has erroneously fallen into the belief that supply-side economics (e.g., tax cuts) works. Here's a little tidbit for you: both Reagan and Bush stimulated the economy with direct government spending no matter what conservatives tell you (war spending constitutes economic stimulus).
Do your homework before posting silliness, please.
Save the Republic, you need to catch up with your crowd, we don't want you here. Since you are a repug, all you do is spew BS and rhetoric, when you lose everything you've got and thats on the way buddy, and you will lose, because you've got your head so far up your ass, that you can't see what is happening right in front of your face, and you're just like those devils, you're selfish and uninformed, and hate filled, dare I say that you are the child of a KKK? because, you are one of those people who are spoiled and hate filled, Wisconsin should teach a lot of people that it's not the fastest one that wins the race, and its really not a good thing to move without doing your homework on the person you are going to elect. They lied and said it was about Jobs, Jobs, Jobs and the ink on the paper wasn't even dry, before they started dismantling programs, schools, taking away Jobs and you think this is right? and don't believe ever a Republican...ever, it's the one who thinks and plans and never let haters know what you're thinking..Don't answer this, because you're a fool, and you're one of those devils you want to lead people to slaughter...just like the Repug that you are...
the problem with govmt spending is that it only adds printed money delvaluing the good stuff. Also money in private hands is spent on what people actually want and by the way $1 spent by people generates $3 in business as the buck gets passed around. Do you realy want a highschool droput working for the Govmt to decide what to spend your hard earned money on/ I believe I am better at it than they would be. BUt feel free to let them handle your finances for you provided you aren't one of the 50% that don't pay taxes.
I forget what war did Reaggan start???
More distraction, misinformation and projection by our little pet conservative. So what are your republicans going to do besides tax cuts for the wealthy and more gutting of the social safety net? Tax cuts have been tried for 30 years with very little job creation, so that ideals debunked. As well as cutting social programs while giving tax cuts have again produced no job's, so exactly what are your GOP plans to create jobs?
Yes I remember Boehner making that his platform when he became Speaker, it was jobs, jobs, jobs. They havent produced one jobs bill.
The wealthy have done a good job in brain-washing their little blog pets. I cant understand anyone, unless they are rich, going out on blogs advocating the middle class continue to put their tax money towards corporate jets at the same time we lose wages, benefits, social security, house values, etc. Who in their right mind would think thats OK. I will never understand.
Ahhhhhh excuse me but why should the democrats get on board for throwing granny off a cliff Ryan bill, which neither lowers the debt nor creates jobs because every dime the Ryan plan supposedly saves, he gives away in tax cuts to corporations plus the added cost of making up his coupons for private insurance companies.
As far as the rest of the house bills, stopping abortion will produce jobs, really. Once again we can plainly see the GOP is stuck on stupid.
That is the best you can come up with? Whats even funnier is how you republicans think 55 year olds would toss 54 year olds under the bus out of personal greed, Oh yeah thats right, tea bagged republicans only care if they get theirs and screw everyone else so their projection makes them believe that others are just as greedy as they are. Then you wonder why the R brand is getting lower polling numbers then Democrats, oh wait thats right, you don't care about polls except the ones that show how bad democrats are doing.
You guys are to stupid. Tax cuts for the rich are not our agenda we do not care if billionaires pay more. The truth is though that they just do not have enough to make a big difference. Taxing them will only make you feel better even though you zip. If we taxed them at 100% It would not come close to being enough. After all there really are a very few true billionaires.. Starving the Beast is the goal. History has shown that anytime there is money in the federal bank a new needy problem MUST be fixed with more money thrown at it. By limiting the revenue stream to the present number no new spending can take place. I bet if the dems would sign off that all new revenue would only be used to pay down debt you would be surprised who would sign up. Me for one.

And Now Some Happy News:
Good Riddance Glenn Beck:
He is perhaps the most paranoid man in America and he makes anyone who has ever claimed to have been abducted by aliens seem sane by comparison. Hell, we should rename paranoid schizophrenia after him. And he has brought the Radical Right Wing closer to the mainstream than ever before. His name is Glenn Beck and for the last few years, he has made it his mission to create elaborate conspiracy theories to bring down Democrats, and more specifically, liberals..
Glenn Beck is by far the biggest hate and fear merchant in the media today. An alcoholic and drug addict for 15 years of his life, he now gets high on spreading lies, rewriting history, and spreading right wing propaganda. And in the spirit of this conspiracy spinner, let’s weave a conspiracy of our own, except this one has a basis in fact.
Beck began his career as a radio host at the age of 18 in Utah. He then moved on to a radio station in Washington D.C. and then to one in New Haven. While in New Haven, Beck would take one theology class at Yale who only accepted him upon the recommendation of Joe Lieberman. But Beck couldn’t cut it in college and dropped out soon after. That one class remains the extent of Becks post-secondary experience. He then went on to “self-educate” himself reading books by authors such as Adolf Hitler, Billy Graham, and Friedrich Nietzsche. He would then work at a Phoenix radio station where he would spark outrage and controversy when he phoned the wife of a rival radio host and mocked her miscarriage on the air. He would then mock a Chinese American caller at another radio station. Beck would be fired multiple times throughout his radio career and would begin the Glenn Beck Program with a station in Tampa which still airs today. Beck then made the jump to television when CNN gave him his own program, and then moved to Fox News Channel.
Beck has made several other attempts to rewrite history, such as when he claimed that Civil Rights was ushered in by Republicans, which is a complete white washing of history. It was Democrats and moderate Republicans that passed Civil Rights. In reality, the radical right that Beck speaks for were totally against the Civil Rights Act and still are today. They just want to claim ownership of it so they can tear it down. Remember that racists are a large part of the Tea Party and extreme right wing movement that Beck is part of. Beck has also attempted to Christianize America. He and pal David Barton (who has been instrumental in rewriting Texas school books) partnered up to present the lie that the Founding Fathers were Christians who were against separation of church and state. Once again, Beck is lying through his teeth. The founders were mostly Freemasons and Deists that believed in a Supreme Being or Creator but not necessarily a specific God of a specific religion. And they absolutely believed in separation of church and state (see article, The Wall Between Church And State, for more on this topic). Beck has also claimed that racism had nothing to do with slavery which is also a lie. Southern whites believed African- Americans to be inferior human beings and many still do. Beck seems to have a problem with black people as well. Much of his most controversial rhetoric came about after President Obama took office. Here are just a couple quotes that Beck has made about Obama and the African-American community.
“This president I think has exposed himself over and over again as a guy who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture….I’m not saying he doesn’t like white people, I’m saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist.” – on President Obama, sparking an advertiser exodus from his FOX News show, July 28, 2009
“The only Katrina victims we’re seeing on television are the scumbags.” – “The Glenn Beck Program,” Sept. 9, 2005
Glenn Beck has proven himself to be a racist and his followers love him for it. Beck has also proven his hatred for the families of the 9-11 victims even though he created the 9-12 Project to supposedly represent the unity between Americans the day after the tragedy. Beck claims this group isn’t political but it is. The group has been very active in conservative causes and is allied with the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party. Beck doesn’t really care about 9-11 at all. The only thing he cares about is exploiting the tragedy for personal and political gain.
Of the victim’s families, he once said,
“When I see a 9/11 victim family on television, or whatever, I’m just like, ‘Oh shut up’ I’m so sick of them because they’re always complaining.” – “The Glenn Beck Program,” Sept. 9, 2005
In addition to obvious hatred of these families, Beck has also demonstrated his hatred of liberals by cheering for disasters that occur in liberal leaning states. For example, when forest fires raged in California in 2007 and destroyed many homes, Beck had the heartless audacity to claim that the people there had it coming. On his program he stated, “I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today.” Just last year Beck opposed the Muslim community center that will be built 2 blocks away from Ground Zero of the World Trade Center. Beck incited hatred and violence against American Muslims leading to the vandalism of mosques and attacks on Arab-Americans. But Beck has demonstrated his hatred of Muslims before. In 2006, Beck interviewed Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim U.S. congressman, and had this to say,
“I have been nervous about this interview with you because what I feel like saying is, ‘Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies. … And I know you’re not. I’m not accusing you of being an enemy, but that’s the way I feel, and I think a lot of Americans will feel that way.”
And if you didn’t think it could get any darker than that, it does. Glenn Beck has called for outright violence against liberals telling his followers that they should “shoot them in the forehead”. At least three would be assassins have pointed to Glenn Becks show as the inspiration for their actions.
On July 18, 2010, Byron Williams was stopped by the California Highway Patrol and engaged in a shootout with law enforcement. He later said he was on his way to murder individuals at the Tides Foundation and ACLU and that Glenn Beck inspired him to do it.
In October 2010, Charles Wilson was sentenced to a year and a day in prison for threatening Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) with “violence” in phone calls to her office. The hate filled threats were in part inspired by Glenn Beck, according to Wilson’s cousin.
And finally, in December 2010, Gregory Lee Giusti was sentenced to a year and nine months in federal prison for threatening to destroy former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s home if she voted in support of the health care reform law. Giusti had watched Glenn Beck burn Pelosi in effigy and became inspired.
Beck has a history of inciting violence against Democrats. He has even fantasized about shooting Michael Moore, and be-heading President Obama. The message Beck is clearly sending to his followers is that he wants them to kill liberals, plain and simple.
The problem I have with Beck, is that sometimes I can’t tell whether he really believes what he says, or if he just does this stuff for ratings and money. He makes 32 million dollars a year. The idiots of the right wing have literally made him rich. When Beck talks about how much he loves America, he has to use Vicks under his eyes to make himself tear up. And as further evidence that his rhetoric is merely a gimmick, Beck, referring to fans, once said, “If you take what I say as the gospel, you’re an idiot.” And Beck is correct. His fans are idiots. Idiotic enough to believe any word that comes out of his mouth. But, why? Beck tells his followers exactly what they want to hear and he gives these crack pots a voice that they never had before. Their ideas and beliefs can now be spread nationally. The intellectuals of the Republican Party have lost control of their party to the ignorant who have no sense of history beyond what Glenn Beck has told them and he’s not even a college graduate. If he had not dropped out of school, perhaps Beck would be very different. Beck wouldn’t attack education as much as he does if he actually had one.
Following in the footsteps of his mentor, Cleon Skousen, and picking up the causes of the John Birch Society, Glenn Beck has proclaimed himself the voice of the right wing movement that seeks to distort history and force their beliefs on the rest of us. To them, if you don’t agree with them, you’re an enemy of the state that must be discredited and destroyed. Beck is losing his audience steadily, but it isn’t enough to stop the right wing. Even if Beck’s show is cancelled, the damage has been done, and it will reverberate across the country. If we allow the extreme right wing to brainwash people and rewrite the history books, America will end up going backwards. Imagine America going back to a time before the Progressive Movement. Minorities would be terrorized and women treated like slaves. Health care would only be available to the wealthy and people would be working for pennies. And these poor ignorant followers are cheering for their own future misery. Glenn Beck and the right wing are not patriotic Americans, they are a stain upon it.

Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim U.S. congressman, and had this to say,

for a guy that is unimportant and speaks to nobody Beck sure has you going. I believe that is what he wanted to do get you guys to show true colors. BANG he got ya.
I just read your post again. why the repetition? Couldn't think of any actual facts. Beck is over the top histrionic but it comes from his heart. he is self made and is grateful for opportunity to make a comeback that a free market has allowed him to.
Enough if the Republicans would only work with the President instead of always trying to screw him the country would stand a chance of recovery . If not everyone should realize that your life style is OVER China will soon rule what is left of the USA. If you think I am kidding just keep watching as the USA slips further down the scale. Put politics aside for awhile get the smartest economists and sort out the mess that you are in, if not enjoy the down fall to poverty. No more smart ass remarks about who is too fault. The wealthy could care less about the working class, VOTE VOTE VOTE in 2012
Bill M
The only thing Republicans seem to be able to do is start depressions and recessions. Keep it up bright boy and soon you too will be moving to that cardboard box some rich fat cat's refrigerator came in. Because voting republican will soon have your job moving to a third world country and you'll be left out in the cold begging for pocket change. The GOP will toss you under the bus as soon as they find out you aren't a 2% member.
Whomitmay,
you forgot one of their favorable,,, starting WARS!! and usually have some one else clean up the mess.
Yeah funny how the only war they whine about is the war that has no ground troops involved, seems they forgot that we were fighting them over there so we aren't fighting them here. Oh thats right NATO started that war and we all know how the R's love NATO.
I can't tell if the Prez is turning into Clinton or Carter. He seems to be beginning to get what the real middle expects but he is hiding and letting his minions play,. He beat Biden in the primary why is Biden the negotiator?
FU-RTG
Good heavens could you write a bit more Blah, Blah...............
Glenn Beck has/had the highest rated cable show on TV and you hate that - what the fact that he draws in 5 times the rates of the ED show bothers you?
Everyone who is a Republican or NOT a DEM is suddenly and forever stamped a racist...how boring, can you or anyone on the Left come with another tag you would like to place on the right?
YOU ARE FULL OF LIES AND THE ONLY WORLD YOU SEE IS:
Tea Party - racist
Republicans - racist
conservatives - racist
Glen Beck - racist
anyone on FOX news - racist
anyone against gay marriage - racist
gun owners - racist
cut the national debt - racist
Another lost sheep willing to feed his children to the wolves hoping that the rich will tinkle down on him. Notice his use of the word racist as if that were the only reason to dislike the GOP and the GOP enablers, though clearly to most people in the world it would cause most intelligent people to run from a party who endorse racism.
But facts are the GOP also have other traits to dislike, such as sexism, classicist, extremism and anti social behaviors where its ok to take from the poor to give to the already wealthy. They don't even see their hypocrisy by taking that $600 a month check from a poor single mother, why thats living off the fat of the land, in order to give a billionaire millions in corporate welfare.
Or how the Ryan bill claims its ending the deficit problem by giving grandma a coupon to take to a healthcare insurance company and hope she gets a good deal just so he can then give billionaires more tax cuts and by 2030 it somehow starts paying down the deficit. But wait, if the deficit is such a big problem that we need to fix the problem right now, then how can the GOP say that the Ryan bill will do that when we won't see any deficit solving from that bill for 25 years? So no dear poster it isn't just R's being racist that we dislike, its their lack of ability to run a country.
As the saying goes, if the shoe fits, wear it
A Wall Street Journal/ Nbc news poll conducted June 9-13 found that just 18% of respondents approved of the performance of Congress compared to 22 percent last month, and close to where it stood (at 20 percent) in April. Forty-two percent said they had very little or no confidence in Congress compared to 48 percent who expressed “some” confidence, and 10 percent who said they had a great deal or quite a bit of confidence in lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
The Journal/NBC News survey said that 60 percent did not believe the new Republican leadership had brough about much change, either for better or worse, while 23 percent said it had brought about the wrong kind of change. Thirteen percent believed Republicans had brought the right kind of change. When the Democrats were in control in 2007 after winning back the House, 60 percent also said of them that they had not brought about much change, but a lesser 15 percent said they had brought about the wrong kind.
The poll found voters split at 44 percent each, with 12 percent not sure, on which party they preferred to control Congress after next year’s election.
furtg
I appreciate your numbers.
Allow me to extrapolate them If i may. Those numbers measure distrust of elected officials. Conservatives like me have the same disdain for government employees appointed or created by these same untrusted and ineffective officials.
That is why we want to replace them or hold down to minimum the extent to which they intrude in your or my life. I do not like or trust unnamed faceless bureaucrat to make economic decisions for me. That kind of position carries with it a moral imperative to act personally in such a way as to maximize the effect of aiding a neighbor (used collectively ) Faux Conservatism that stops with minimizing government without replacing it with personal activism like volunteerism, donating time money and resources is not what we are about. Libs choose to only see one half of the conservative argument without acknowledging the other half. They mistrust businessmen and only see greed they never focus on the billions of personal and private NGOs that are 10 times more efficient than government programs because they do n0t have false parameters. In my little corner of the wold I know of a man who is very poor due to having to be a caretaker for a sick wife. He misses the food stamp cutoff by $30 per month. Fortunately there is a private pantry that he can go to and pick up a weeks worth of groceries for free. It depends on people who want nothing in return keeping the shelves stocked. Read the Conservative mind by Russel Kirk or at least the Cliff notes to verify what i have sid. That is also the reason for my nick,
The Republican Party is the party of "NO!" No government, because you see in this country the definition for government is "The People" - government of, by, and for the people. Not government of, by, and for the corporations. The Republicans and their masters (mega corporations) don't like - have never liked - that defintion of the government and have been at war for a very long time to defeat "the people" and redefine government as rule by the most powerful corporations with the goal of privatizing everything, where profit over people will be even more blatant and sadistic than it is now. If they can crush the voice of the people, they will have all the power - in their minds anyway.
Ah, but here is the thing, one can never really crush the voice of the people. It always has a way of surviving. So speak up all Americans who still believe in an American Dream for all - not just the wealthy!! Speak up and most importantly vote - not for those who proclaim the agenda of their greedy corporate masters, but rather vote for those who have a history of truly working for the people.

Isn't amazing that all big giant wealthy people and corporations fund only the Repubs. While only poor people with no bucks fund the Dems. I guess that is why the Repub candidates have all the money and the Dems are broke. OOPS how is Obama planning to get the Billion he is going to spend on the next election. Is he taking away poor peoples food?
Quote from "save the republic"
If only Obama would reach across the aisle with the Republicans we could get something done,

Budget Talks Near Collapse as G.O.P. Leader Quits
Question: How do you negotiate with people that act like little children, and walk out of meetings when they don't get their way, and then leave for vacations?
MAN UP CANTOR, DO YOUR DAMN JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mikey22030/regressive tp/ilp/sybil, and WHATEVER you'll call yourself next. There WAS no negotiation in Wisconsin on the budget bills. NO Democratic amendments were allowed into either bill. So don't say they left the state to avoid negotiating. It's BS, pure and simple. And don't even compare it to the HCRA. There were 161 nopublicon amendments in THAT bill.
Showdown over the debt ceiling not about economics or jobs
John S. Irons
June 24, 2011
It has been widely reported that House Republican leader Eric Cantor and Republican Senator Jon Kyl have walked out of the budget negotiations led by Vice President Biden. In public statements, they object to putting revenue on the table and to additional economic stimulus. House Speaker John Boehner has publically supported the departure—citing a list of demands that includes immediate drastic spending cuts, strict budget caps, and no additional revenue.
By now, it is more than obvious that the showdown over the debt ceiling has nothing to do with economics or jobs. As Matt Miller has repeatedly pointed out, the Republican Budget plan, as initially proposed by Paul Ryan, would add $5.4 trillion to the debt over the next decade—why not boost the debt ceiling by that amount as a common-ground approach? To be clear, all but five Republican Senators, and all but four House Republicans (97% of the Republican Congressional delegation) voted for this budget, which would necessitate a multi-trillion increase in the debt ceiling.
It is also clear what is driving the near-term deficit outlook. The Congressional Budget Office recently released their long-term budget outlook, which examines the deficit over the next 25 years. In short, the CBO report shows that if Congress simply did nothing new on revenue—in particular, if they did not extend the Bush-era tax changes nor other temporary tax reductions—then the deficit would be on a sustainable path over the 25-year horizon (with debt at a reasonable 84% of GDP in 2035). On the other hand, if we were to continue with current tax policy for the next 25 years, debt would spiral up to nearly 200% of GDP. (Over the long-term, rapidly rising health care costs are another prime driver of deficits, in addition to inadequate revenue.) The contention that revenue should not even be under discussion is at odds with economic reality.
As the economy continues to climb out of a severe recession, what is needed now is additional job creation, not premature austerity. With interest rates at historic lows, there is no indication that deficits are a drag on the current economy. Over the long-term, we need a balanced approach to realign revenues with spending in a way that preserves public investments.

Hey! The country would have more money if the "RICH" small businesses didn't get so many tax breaks on their TAXES, so that they can receive Free medical for their children and Food Stamps. So you ignorant Republican Stepford folks take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself. Is it really possible that a business can gross 1 million dollars and at the end of the year tell the IRS they cleared only $20,000? Republicans put your money where your mouth is and re-evaluate all of the deductions businesses get to use on their taxes. S Corporations should no longer be able to make thousands of dollars a month and claim that they pay themselves $800 mon while having the business pay their mortgage, car payment, private schools and fancy trips. See, only the lowly working class person has their taxes, Medicare and Social Security taken out of their pay every payday. Come on people, pay attention and check the facts. Why do you keep listening to these Liars?
Robin just a little thing it is entirely possible to take in way more than a million and actually still lose your ass. If you have ever run a business you would know that revenue minus expenses does not necessarily equal profit. If it did what is all the hoopla about clearly every company with a revenue stream is making money right? So Chrysler, GM did not need bailouts as they were actually MAKING money because they sold a few cars and had money coming in. By that logic since taxes bring in revenue there is obviously enough to pay for everything so what is the big whoop. I would say get a job but oh gee there aren't any because of all the profitable companies. by the what is rich? a hundred grand a year?

Bush "Accomplishments" Continued:
Sounds to me like blowing hot air.(post 279-1)
While it has been fun crapping in ilp's oatmeal, it is time to retire for the day. Good bye for now my right wing friend.
Republicans are the Wrecking Crew and you Republic have just made yourself and you friend more reprehensible than I ever though you could be. Out trying to destroy something good, fair and justice, with lies and hate speech. Thanks for living up to Repugnant name.
MRJCN
I suggest you report save the republic to the site moderators for COH violations. Also, save, and i love politics are one in the same person posting on here. He was previously known as mike22030/progressive tp before being kicked off NV once before for violating the user agreement for prohibited conduct. Just an FYI.
Rather full of yourself, aren't you ilp? You equate "everyone" with you and your alter ego. You overstate your importance. It's easy to see you're a re reg troller. Same BS statements as your former aliases. If you're going to play the game, at least come up with some new talking points. Different names, and the same words ain't gonna cut it.
By we , you mean you and that turd in your pocket?
Ed can't take any more truthers. He is eliminating the blog feed. I can't say as I blame him it is getting hot in here. Maybe if he limits what people see they won't know what a arrogant tool he is. Flying around in his pvt Jet. Well, now maybe, but not for long it is going to be too expensive.
Boo!! You can run, but you can't hide
The Republicans invented the Twist, not the dance named Twist, but a way they have of twisting things and telling lies to the public.
To the fellow who said Democrats were responsible for Viet Nam. Eisenhower sent 900 advisers in 1956 to assist the South Vietnamese government after the French were defeated at Bien Dien Phu. The French left and Eisenhower moved in.
