i don't think the democrats took 2010 for granted. they saw their shellacking coming, but there was no way to stop it, in my opinion. i think the democrats were surprised that they lost so many seats, but from what i heard, they were pretty much resigned to losing the house.

of course we know that this was based on the economy, the slow recovery from the worst recession since the Great Depression. the unfortunate thing for the publicans is that they immediately said this was a mandate for them to do whatever they wanted.

from what i saw and heard, the tea party did a fine job of pandering to the emotions of the masses by immediately recognizing the debt as president obama's, right after he took office. we never heard a word from the tea party about the burgeoning debt when W. was president (did they even exist). part of the reason for this is because W. didn't include what was spent on the wars as part of the debt that he reported to the american people. the first thing Obama did when he became president was to include that in our debt. he has had a lot of cleaning up to do after bush, in more ways than one.

what made bush think he didn't have to include the 2 wars in the budget deficit? because he is sneaky and a liar.

The administration believes it trumps all criticism with one data point: GM and Chrysler are still with us. GM has even been making money, and had the biggest IPO in American history last November.

It shouldn't have been in doubt that if government threw $80 billion at two companies, not expecting to get all of it back, it could save them. She points out that the loss from the bailouts (the administration's estimate is $14 billion) will be close to the entire market capitalization of GM in 2007. Actually it works better for his hate spam if he ignores the part where the shrub started the bailout of the auto makers in the end of '08. Without that part he can have an easier time trying to spin it so that Obama looks like he put all the money into the bailout and is getting no results got it.
