Wisconsin Republicans have been trying to pass the voter suppression bill for 10 years. Today, Scott Walker signed it into law.
At a time when Gov. Walker is crippling unions in the name of balancing the budget, it's puzzling that he so adamantly pursued a law that will cost the state government $7 million.

We want Ed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You finally get a line-up that the small people appreciate and you are doing your damnest to break it up. I for one will tell you that after Oberman and now Ed you will have massive resistence on your hands if you allow this action to continue. We will organize, we will protest, we will boycott, but will be heard. I am trying to figure out why Comcast and GE are running scared. Ed, I think your comment about Laura was a compliment, don't back down, there are plenty of people that support. Thank you for giving us a voice.
We want Ed back now.
NBC-Nothing but chickens. Its Ed or another channel.
PLEASE BRING ED BACK..... ED is the only reason i watch your network.... If you don't bring ED back, you will LOSE many viewers..... MSNBC PLEASE BRING ED BACK.... ED speaks the truth. ED speaks for the majority of americans....PLEASE BRING ED BACK.
Please bring Ed Schultz back to MSNBC. That is the one should that will keep me from watching CNN. Ed is a true American and has nothing to be ashamed. His family should be proud of him for his strength , conviction and integrity. Ed's only mistake was forgetting that only Rush the Limbo can get away with speak inappropriately and using offensive language.
Ed, Ok you lost a bit of character (momentarily) with your recent comments. You tell your children I for one will not throw you under the bus for that. Tell them that I see their dad as one with a good heart, one who believes in the truth, one who believes in the common man. Tell them that you are passionate about where this country is headed and that he is fighting for them and all people. Tell them that The group of people he is at odds with, don't tell the truth and don't care about people that are not like them. That position is detrimental to America's future. Ed tell your kids that being human sometimes we all fall short of where we want to be. TELL THEM I TOO WANT TO SEE YOU BACK ON THE AIR BECAUSE YOU GIVES ME HOPE FOR THE FUTURE EXISTENCE OF MY CHILDREN AND FUTURE GRANDCHILDREN. (MSNBC GET ED BACK ON THE SHOW)
First Keith now Ed. (Wow) Someone has it in for MSNBC
Why is it that only the liberal press has to apologize for making statements (which are probably true in this case since Laura Ingraham is a monster in a dress,if indeed she is a female) about the right wing b*******!
In anycase, MSNBC is making a great mistake if they instigated this "suspension" since there is no other reason to watch their channel other than Lawrence O'Donnell, Rachel, and Ed now that they got rid of Oberman. (whom we are waiting for the 20th of June on Current TV).
This is the way it is for nations who lose their democracy when the media is taken over by the right-wing and fascists....let's remember Hitler's Germany, Italy's plight under Mussolini and others who have in the past lost their freedoms and freedom of the press.
Aplogize HELL!!! Tell it the way it is or don't bother taking up airtime!
I agree, his comments about her were a compliment! These people on the right can say whatever they want and they are never challenged, I for one am tired of apologizing.
Yeah, We want Ed.We want Ed,...Bring Ed back ,Bring Ed back...
, We want Ed.We want Ed,...Bring Ed back ,Bring Ed back...Yeah,
We want Ed.We want Ed,...Bring Ed back ,Bring Ed back...
Can't keep watching if u keep changing are leading MEN
Walker looks like such a tool!! Dee de dee!! What a dumbass!!
Every evening at 7p.m. I look forward to see the issues you will present to your viewers. To keep your viewers informed of the things are said by the GOP's, with their false statements with a straight face without twitching. You apologized and you ask for forgiveness with sincerity from your heart like a man. Who are we to judge you. Don't stay away so long, Mr. Ed. We will miss you!!
Ed is far and away the best current news commentator in the country. His accuracy and commitment to the TRUE story on any topic is not only refreshing but most usually very inspiring also. He needs to be returned to his highly effective and well deserved spot in the MSNBC lineup !!!!
I normally tape the Ed show if I can't see it live. MSNBC should be fighting harder with the FCC to get Laumbach off the air. Have you listened to his daily rants?
We want Ed, or it's time to turn the channel back to CNN.
I finally get a network with an evening line-up that shares most of my views and they are currently under attack. Who's next? As an African American there is very little represenation on primetime television but Chris, Cenk, Lawrence, Rachel and Ed at least give us a voice. I would encourage Comcast and GE to be careful with any impending decisions that will prove to be harmful for the network. You may have people in high places, we just have people.
MSNBC, if you don't bring ED back, i as MANY other viewers will be DONE watching your station..... One show is ENOUGH for ED to not be on. So i will tune in tomorrow to HOPEFULLY see Ed's friendly face.... If ED is not on tomorrow, i WILL be changing the channel.............. If ED does not come back, i as a viewer WON'T EITHER........
We love Ed! God Bless you Ed and your family!
I read he well be back in a week!!
Over in the middle east, the people are fighting and dying for the right to vote and have a say in their country. Here, the Republicans are trying to take the vote away. Will we be having to fight and die for the right to vote. My self, I'm getting sick and tired of these people. If they want a fight they should remember that only rightwingers are not the only ones who knows how to fire a gun and I will fight for the right to vote.
Easy Johnny! How can't vote now? Ed has you all mixed up, Pay attention. How would you like to go to vote and the person working the polls says to you "I'm sorry, you already voted today"? How is making someone show an ID stopping them from voting? Can you see yet? Ed has you all worked up over nothing. 33 other states have the same law or are in the process of making it law. Yoyu act like Walker is the only one because Ed only tells you the details he wants you to repeat. That's why he will be let go to join Keith soon.
Read the bill. It's more than JUST an ID issue. Colege ID won't work. The required ID will cost no less than $75. It also changes residency requirements along with other changes. It is gear toward the lower income and elderly, which normally vote democratic. It is about supressing the vote. READ the bill if you can
Larry, You are misinformed! In my state, a State issued ID costs under $10. Show me the link that shows this ID will cost "no less than $75"....Do you know how silly you sound saying that? I read the bill.
Larry, Here is a short statement of the bill's content "Under the new law, voters will have to present a driver's license, state ID, passport, military ID, naturalization papers or tribal ID in order to vote. College students could vote with an ID from their school as long as it has their signature and an expiration date that falls within two years of the card's issuance." Your argument is straight from the horses ass...er..I meant Ed." No truth what-so-ever. And "People living in nursing homes, retirement homes and institutions are exempt, as are victims of stalking and anyone who objects to having their photos taken for religious grounds." So, Ed's a liar and any of his viewers that are not smart enough to look for themselves deserves to be uninformed. "None of the 20 voter fraud cases prosecuted by the state Department of Justice and Milwaukee County district attorney's office stemming from the November 2008 presidential election involved someone voting using another person's name."
Except the UW system's current IDs don't conform to the requirements. And anyone without a drivers license who can't lay hands on a birth certificate will face some extra trouble and expense. And anyone who has moved recently so that the address on the photo ID hasn't caught up.
UW has two years to change their ID's to comply. It won't hurt a sole. We are all adults and are required in life to do things that sometimes are not just handed to us. (I have had to go to work for over 30 years). You are beating a dead horse, it ain't gona' run.
I beg to differ. Walker isn't in office because people voted him in out of dislike for Obama - he's in office because the democrats of WI got lazy and underestimated the republicans. But what's happening here is happening in other states, too, and it's clear that after Obama was elected they regrouped and planned this very concerted effort.
As for this voter suppression bill - it will likely be challenged and I, for one, will stand with those in opposition! I'm NOT giving up until he and as many republicans can be recalled or voted out! I am a lifelong Wisconsinite and Madisonian...we're of hearty stock!
I think it's a little of each, Rene. I wasn't lazy -- I got out and voted for both Barrett and Feingold, not to mention the Democratic candidates in my state assembly and senate district. I was disappointed at the election results, but I thought back to Thompson and thought, "How bad can it be?"
This is how bad it can be. Walker and his Republicans are solidifying their power with this bill, and they will have made off with the entire state before we can remove them from office.
This bill will keep the next election HONEST...how refreshing!
So the last election was DIShonest? Is that how wacko walker got elected UF???
I'll be back when the voice of reason is returned to the air which is Ed Schultz; apologizing is all that is necessary.
Walker, the Fitzgerald brothers, and Paul Ryan should be suspended without pay. Oh wait, they'll be out of a job very soon.
Paul Ryan was not successful, and not very convincing on his views on the federal budget and how to balance the budget. I was not impressed when he talked on c-span.
MSNBC is ridiculous to suspend Ed for something he said during his radio show. They think they can limit his freedom of speech every minute. Give me a break. Laura Ingram says vile things. Look at her response to the situation: it may not have used a word such as slut but it was designed to belittle and degrade. Bring back Ed and quit being the "no tolerance" bullies of the airwaves, MSNBC. Your intolerance does not make the world a better place. We believe in the freedom of speech in America.
MSNBC can't afford for Ed to drive away any more sponsors!
Ed said during his apology (a total tear-jerker) that he was taking leave voluntarily, in order to atone for what he said. I'm really hoping they bring him back on Tuesday. Next Monday is Memorial Day, so they probably won't have their usual evening programming (they usually don't).
So from tonight (Wednesday) through next Tuesday, that's a week. He'll be back before we know it.
Ed, you are a big man for apologizing publicly on-air, as well as personally to Ms. Ingraham. Much love to you sir. See you soon!
Walker is a dictator and not a governor.
