Ed's been focusing public attention on how Wall Street speculators have driven up gas prices. But it's not just gas, it's lots of commodities, including basic foodstuffs. Now the Christian Aid charity is out with a report warning of the impact and calling for developed nations to enact policies to do something about it. Here's their video on the subject:
Wall Street and food prices

Glenn Beck predicted this one year ago! Now you lunatics get to play "catch up". Welcome to the game...Johnny Come Latelies. LOL!! You all said Glenn Beck was using fear tactics when he talked about the impending economic crisis due to the wreckless deficit and record national debt caused by Obama's administration and Democrat controlled Congress, which is leading to inflation and significant rise in prices of goods and services - to include gas and food. The IMF just threatened to assign America a LOW credit rating based on the fact that Obama has NO economic policy or plan to deal with this debt crisis - the 1st time in HISTORY the IMF made such a statement. Obama has been the President for 2 years now - the economy is HIS. 9% unemployment and a weak economy is slowing down job growth, even though the Republicans in the House continue to advance job creation measures. Whenever Obama uses a Bush policy, e.g., extending the Bush Tax Cuts, we get a spike in job growth because the small businesses and corporations have a stable foundation upon which to make decisions, to include hiring new employees. Again... ED, it only took you a year to catch up to Beck. Congratulations! LOL!!! When are the Democrats that control 2/3 of the government going to make the hard decisions to get this economy back on course? Still worried about political power and losing votes? Don't worry... with this economy, you're going to lose in 2012. The world is watching... lets see if you and your cronies can step up and do the right thing.
I think it is pretty much a no brainer prediction. I will make a prediction if we dont get control of spending and if we do not get more fair with taxes the middle class will diappear.
well food has been going up here in OR for a while, heck almost same time line that gas when up.
Well ED, hope this gets attention.
We all need to wake up, and get back into the game before its way to late, we are close to the tipping point, it we want to stay a great nation or fall to become a first class third world nation.
According to Reuters: "Past attempts by U.S. regulators to investigate widespread gasoline market malfeasance have borne little fruit. The administration's Financial Fraud Task Force is focused on any manipulation of oil and gas prices, collusion, fraud or other violations of state and federal laws. However, if past efforts are any indication, tracking down manipulation claims will be difficult. The federal government has launched several gasoline price investigations in past years — all of which yielded no evidence of manipulation or other wrongdoing." This is because speculators, aka "investors" are not a primary driver for the significant rise in gas prices across the country - its "smoke and mirrors" by the Obama administration [again] to find a scapegoat for their lack of a comprehensive energy policy. But that's ok, Obama is busy campaigning for 2012. Who's in charge?
Mike
you are so right there were speculators in the market, 2 years ago when Obama got into office and gas was $1.84 and oil was only $58.00. Today, there are also speculators in the market and gas is over $4.00 and oil is over $95.00!
Different then most posters in this room I have been in the futures business or the commodities business for over 25 years!!
So that hasn't CHANGED!!
What has CHANGED is that both gas has DOUBLED and oil has almost DOUBLED since Obama is in office
Now look at the US Dollar which because Obama in 2 years has amassed more debt then Bush in 8 years the US dollar is at 2008 lows!!!
Oil is sold in barrels and is bought and sold in US dollars
That is why they called this a "dog and pony" fraud for democrat politicians to be on television and look like they are dealing with the oil and gas price problem
Ed Schulz just woke up to rising food prices? Talking about like Obama leading from behind. But of course most of this people in this chat room will continue to believe their false commentator
Lets see my crystal ball says that if gas goes up everything else will, wow how incredible..Beck must be a witch and you know what they do with witches
well O'Donnell and him make a nice looking witch couple.
LOL
Good to know the far left Progressive rely on 'witchcraft' - 'witch' makes sense now given the lack of a comprehensive energy and economic policy vs. using a crystal ball; while Conservatives like Glenn Beck rely on patterns and trends analysis based on facts and relevant information. LOL!!
This is troubling since they are flooding the Mississippi river valley and the south in Louisiana to save Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Memphis, St.Louis, Louisville and other smaller towns along the river. This is taking out 3000 sq. acres just in Louisiana alone of rich farm land and hurting the Cajun fishing and hunting grounds along with more farmlands up North just to save the insurance companies and other corporations liks oil and chemical companies. I have seen people on different posts saying this is obamas fault but it is the governors call and the Corps of Engineers recommendation.Do we smell another conspiracy? Maybe. But the price of food will be going up and we will be seeing a shortage. So what do you think our government will do? Do you think they will stop sending food to other countries or do you think they will hold it for our consumption?
The flooding along the Mississippi River is as much the fault of Obama, as the Katrina crisis in Lousiana was the fault of Bush, which is to say - both claims are ridiculous. Unfortunately, both parties have 'extreme' elements that make crazy accusations - the lunatic fringe. I've seen examples of that here, and I'm sure they exist on the far right. Dealing with these natural disasters and resulting humanitarian crises are first and foremost a local and state responsibility. The federal government, according to law, cannot intervene and provide assistance unless the state makes a formal request, e.g., declares a state of emergency. Louis, you are correct - it's the state Governors call and the Corps of Engineers - just like Katrina. Remember, the conspiracy theories on Bush and Katrina; so goes the conspiracy theories for Obama and the Mississippi River floods...unfortunately. Hopefully cooler heads prevail.

44 Million Americans on Food Stamps How is that “Yes We Can” Working out For you
When Barack Obama, the Federal Reserve and the mainstream media tell us that we are in the middle of an economic recovery, is that supposed to be some kind of sick joke? According to newly released numbers, over 44 million Americans are now on food stamps. That is a new all-time record and that number is 13.1% higher than it was just one year ago.
So in light of the statistics above, can anyone really claim that we are in the middle of an economic recovery?
The truth is that there is no sign that any of the long-term trends that are destroying the U.S. economy are even slowing down.
Millions of jobs continue to be shipped overseas.
The U.S. dollar continues to be devalued.
The federal government continues to go into more debt.
State and local governments continue to go into more debt.
Our trade deficit continues to grow.
Our cities continue to be transformed into wastelands as they are being systematically deindustrialized.
The number of Americans that are dependent on the government continues to soar.
The U.S. middle class continues to shrink.
I know that I harp on these themes over and over, but it is vitally important that everyone understands that the mainstream media is lying to us.
The U.S. economy is dying a very painful death and there is no hope on the horizon.
Things are not going to be getting better. Well, they may get a bit better for the boys down on Wall Street, but for the rest of us our standards of living are going to continue to decline.
The best days for the U.S. economy are already behind us. What lies ahead is a whole lot of pain.
We are going to pay the price for decades of corruption and incompetence.
Absolutely Mike we sure find a lot of common ground to be on the opposite side of the coin.lol.Perhaps you are more Independent than you thought and maybe I am more conservative than I realize.
