Today's edition of the Huffington Post features Ed's op-ed on how the President's leadership got America a big win:
The mastermind of the 9/11 attack, Osama bin Laden, is rotting at the bottom of the Arabian Sea. How's that for change you can believe in?
Before I discuss the president and American exceptionalism, we've got to thank those Navy Seals and those military guys that tirelessly give their all for the United States of America.
President Barack Obama has shown an exceptional amount of courage over the last 48 hours. He has undoubtedly proven that he could take that "3:00 a.m. call." And more importantly, despite all of the division in this country that we have politically, we are now beginning to unite a little bit. This may be a big turning point for this nation.
President Obama acted decisively. There wasn't any jingoism going on, no cowboy talk, just a lot of dignity and class.
This is the guy Republicans said didn't have the experience because he never served in the military before. Well, President Obama has had to make some pretty heavy decisions as of late and he has gotten the number one terrorist on the face of the Earth, the man that was responsible for killing some 3,000 Americans and, of course, this is I guess you could say the "mission accomplished" banner that we should be putting up.
The FBI's most wanted fugitive, Osama bin Laden, camped out in this nice million-dollar compound. And on actionable intelligence just like the president said he was going to do, he acted and got it done.
And we need to credit the troops. You know how we hear so much about the troops and how they just have got to have our support? And we do give them the support. Absolutely.
I believe that we have won. How about that spirit?
Do you think those folks at the Naval Academy, the way they were feeling when word came out that we had Bin Laden -- do you feel that they love the president of the United States? Do you think they pay attention to the political rhetoric that's going on, or are they focused on being great servants to this country in the military? That's what they're all about.
This was a huge moment for our military. This was a uniting moment for this country.
And most people put aside our political divisions. I have great respect for the way the president has done this, because some of the details that are coming out are so interesting. This guy that didn't have any military experience, had to make some pretty tough calls.
The president was offered several options here. He could have bombed the target. He didn't want to do that because that of course would have ruined all of the evidence and, of course, we've got to have proof that Osama bin Laden is dead. It would have killed a lot of innocent people, and this president was very concerned about that.
He could have joined in and done a joint operation with the Pakistanis. But the way things have been going, you know what? He just didn't want to outsource this one.
He turned to those great kids that you saw. He turned to those kinds of Americans to say, you know what? You got to do this job.
This is the time. This is the moment. This is the chance. And we're going to move forward and do it -- just like we said we were going to do it as Americans.
This is leadership at its finest hour.
I believe that this is an end of a chapter and we've all been reminded that we've got to keep up this fight and keep going.
President Obama has proved to the world he not only understands, but exemplifies the pure definition of American exceptionalism.

It's been cold and rainy here the last couple of days. Fortunately Ed and DScully, our nations' resident far-left reps with no social life (they post out here every day), will spew enough hot air to keep me toasty through the wee hours. I can't wait. :-D
P.S. Can anyone please find a date for DScully so she can have something else to do?
Oh, and thank you President Obama for ordering the attack and thank you Navy Seals for executing with precision. Has nothing to do with politics folks - once less nasty guy who hates my country and its people removed from the planet.
God bless the "far Left". Too bad Bill O'Reilly's silly nickname for the Dems is easier for you to repeat (like you were suckered into) than to seek the truth.
Our Troops performed with skill, honor and dignity. Our President showed competence and courage as well. Even Fox propaganda ministries metered out some praise for our Hawaiian-born leader of the free world!
The Republicans want to take your Medicare, Social Security and most Veterans' benifits and give it to the UN-deserving, filthy rich who don't pull their weight. Tell CONgress to approve the Progressive budget after the Senate flushes the Ryan plan for plunder down the crapper!
Oh, one more thing, Tex, God bless the lady who bought a Cadillac with her government checks. Wouldn't want her thanking Toyota or VW for our freedom and liberty, eh?
Good luck to the "Gang of 6" that are working on the new federal budget based on the Paul Ryan proposal. The so-called "progressive" plan was a knee jerk reaction (once again) to Republican leadership on the issue. The Progressives have no plan to make the cuts required for our nation, but they are slowly coming around to the proposals made by Paul Ryan. The Progressive plan is gaining no traction and will be flushed as it should because it was never a serious plan to begin with. I'm looking forward to the reforms offered by the Republicans on social security and medicare, which will include penalties for fraud, waste and abuse. Keep repeating the BS far left 'talking points' that wrongly state the Republicans are 'taking away' these benefits vs. reforming them to keep them viable for future generations vs. bankrupting our nation. The incompetence of Obama and his Democrat controlled Senate have been exposed and America will not forget in 2012. The era of the Progressives are coming to an end in 2 years! The Republicans have always done more for our veterans than the Progressive Democrats - and always will. Lets not forget that the extension of the "Bush Tax Cuts" are also working, which Timothy Geithner admitted this week! LOL!!
Oh, far Far FAR left. The Ryan plan is mere window dressing that simply attacks New Deal and Great Society successes. There are no Pentagon pork cuts, for starters. Yes, things need to be adjusted a bit, but the "no billionaire left behind" tax cuts for the idle rich don't do much good - since their enactment we have continued to lose jobs to offshoring and labor outsourcing to India, Red China and don't forget illegal aliens.
And, worst of all, there is no mention from most on the far Far FAR right about re-writing the tax code to make it unprofitable to manufacture offshore LIKE IT WAS BEFORE REAGAN. Put the trade-tariff structure back as it was before the Reagan henchmen made it work against working families.
No Factories = No Freedom
You can thank Bill Clinton for signing NAFTA into law and supporting GATT and the World Trade Organization (WTO) for the reason why American factories left our nation to those nations that have cheaper labor and lower corporate taxes! Another Progressive "genius" LOL!!
Mike that was Bush plan and also Bush said so. So get over yourself.
Well said Ed this is the reason I watch you from my iPad cus my cable provider refuses to broadcast msnbc but what do you exspect from a small town in oklahoma.you tell it like it is. Our president leads with knowledge and a passion for detail not like the idiots from the last president cabinet that ran our country not like cowboys but outlaws.Bush,Chaney and dumbsfeild had there chance but were not capable of pulling this complex operation off.
HAHA!! Good for Oklahoma for recognizing the Cartoon Channel provides more value than MSNBC and the ED Show!! LOL! That's awesome! At least your cable company has more intelligence than many of their customers like you. Obama was smart enough to keep and listen to the military and civilian leaders the Bush administration gave him. Otherwise, his administration is as broke as they come. Like the mistaken Russian word on the "Reset Button" Hillary Clinton gave to her Russian counterpart, LOL!
You're an IDIOT! Bush didn't give Obama anything but 2 wars and an economic depression to deal with. How long has it been since you pulled your head out of your ass and actually tried to formulate an actual fact. You must be one of those who believes the only people in this world with any brains are Beck and Limbaugh and watch Fox news. Your'e a sick PUP!
Poor dumbass! Don't you hate it when the facts get in the way of your fragile "Progressive" reality? LOL!! You can't dispute anything I said so you go into your simpleton attack mode, which I totally laugh at! LOL!! Wake up simpleton!
Mike their is only one duna$$ and that is you.
Wow we got the mark and mike show going on another chance to show the ignorance of the fox news far right hatred you guys need to throw away your Reagan and Bush bedspreads and pillow cases and face reality throw there action figures away to bush looks stupid in that bomber jacket just like he did on the carrier guys this will be my last post on this my mission accomplish lollollollol lmao
If you really study that video of Bush getting off of the plane on the carrier, you will notice that he is wearing a pressurized flight suit. Sorry but that particular aircraft is pressurized, you don't need a pressurized flight suit to fly in it. What a circus.
The truth is... bin ladin got comfortable.. comfortable enough.. to build a substantial compound 30 miles north of the capital of pakistan.. during a timid bush presidency.. in 2005. its important to show the video clips of bush saying he considers bin ladin practically inconsequential.. ( its important to hear these vidioes over & over.. to hit home.. the timid response of bush's presidency towards bin laden & terrorism.. in contrast.. President Obama's aggressive.. hardworking.. practical.. step by step approach towards getting justice )!
Do you know who Ayman Al Zawahiri is? You better learn. Usama Bin Laden was an important target, but symbolic. Great for American morale, but lets not think the war on terrorism is 'over' and we can now pull out troops out of Afghanistan along the Pakistan border. I know many of you are naive on matter of military affairs, but lets try to be realistic and realize this operation was based on many years of intelligence collection and analysis - not just the past 2 years. You get angry with people don't give Obama credit, yet you're all quick to give Bush no credit - hypocrites to the end. LOL! Remember, if was Obama that wanted to shutdown GITMO where we received a majority of intelligence to support this covert operation.... so he's not that practical, hardworking and aggressive. Guess how many of these knowledgeable terrorist detainees would have 'talked' if they were given their Mirandi rights in a federal court based on the wishes of Obama and Department of Justice Eric Holder? NONE!
No one thinks the war or terrorism is over you dip stick, just more illusions you dreamed up mikey. What 'years' of intelligence collection are you talking about mikey? Sure as hell wasn't on your boy george's watch now was it, seeing how he ignored looking for OBL six months after 9-11 when he realized he could'nt find him plus dissolving his Bin Laden unit in 2005. 'We will hunt him down and bring him to justice'..Yeah.... right. Dems LED....Repubs, better luck next time.
Hey "short bus" Johnny, still placing all your "Hope" in your Obama Messiah!?! LOL! Bush never ignored Usama Bin Laden, he just correctly called him what he is - a symbol for Al Qaeda, but not the real *brain* behind their operations. I expect you to confuse window dressing with real brains when you elected Obama as President like you would Miss America. LOL!! Republicans LED, while Democrats FLED!
mike, you would reconize a fact if it hit you in your face. Oh, that's not your face its you a.......
Ah yes, build a big housing compound, surround it with a high wall, act suspiciously- but the local police have no knowledge of who lives there? Yeah, right. And the United States spends millions of dollars in "aid" for the priviledge of being lied to. What else is new?
If the United States had coordinated this strike on the compund with the local government, bin Laden would have been long gone.......
While the 'knee jerk' reaction is to terminate all foreign aid - especially to nations like Pakistan; we need to look at the 'big picture' and realize that whatever financial aid "vacuum" we create will be filled by nations like China, Russia, and Iran. We currently have moderates in power in Pakistan, which is better than the alternative if you watched the Pro-Usama bin Laden demonstrations on Pakistans streets today on the news. They are a strategic partner in this war on terrorism whether we like it or not, and are taking on the Taliban too. Relations like this are often ugly and dirty. We need to look at the big picture from an international perspective.... I agree, our government and military did the right thing by not contacting the Pakistan government/military prior to this strike or any future strike on key Al Qaeda leaders.
Mike bushhhhhh the great president do you think Obama can use that mission accomplished banner that they proudly displayed for accomplishing the biggest recession since the depression pull your head out it's a sunny day then you can accomplish something today
Do you think Bush placed the sign on the aircraft carrier or the military that work on that carrier? dumbass. LOL! It's also a lie that Bush had the biggest recession since the depression; it's happening now under Obama's watch, but you're too simple to pull your head out of Obama's ass.
Mike your a typical republican idiot you guys live in that world of hate and hostility go back to fox news so that you and your fellow repukes can see the the fake news have a great day knucklehead oh and by the it took Obama 2 1/2 years to do what bushhhhhh couldnt do in 7
Mike Bush would would have a banner on the aircraft carrier if he was really going after OBL they were friends.
Where does Al queda get there weapons? Is it China or Russia?
We gave OBL weapons stated with Reagan.
Your editorial matches what I have been observing on your msnbc show, especially since you became Obama's biggest cheerleader about Libya. You have become a propaganda mouthpiece for the Obama administration. I used to hold alot of respect for you. The fact that you could look at any given situation, and although an Obama supporter, could reason it out, and try to put some balance into it, but that has all gone down the drain. You've lost your perspective Ed, and I am very sorry to see it. So invading other countries, and assasinations are fine with you? What Osama Bin Laden did on 9/11 was tragic and despicable, but have all the thousands of lost lives and the billions of dollars been worth it, in the end, to assasinate this one man? That gives new meaning to revenge and vengence and in the worst of ways. I guess this is the major way that you and I part ways in opinion. You have pretty much lost me as a viewer. Maybe someday you will regain much needed perspective and be less of a propaganda machine.
ED and many of his far left fans here are "Nut Swingers" for Obama.. LOL!! You have to admit its humorous to see the blatant one sided reporting from MSNBC and the ED Show. It's too easy to shut down these simpletons that can use the facts to back up their rhetoric and BS, so they go into attack mode, which I find hilarious. I come here for pure amusement and many of the far far left 'regulars' here always meet my low expectations. One time patriots...then its back to bashing the military.
Just goes to show your don't want the truth so I am glade to see your are gone I wish Mike your friend would leave too.
To TexasT Not politics? If it was done right 10 years ago, a lot of our young people would be still alive, but we had to make sure the Military Industrial Complex was taken care of (Profit for a life). By the way, the Republican Party is not for you, never was and never will be. If you think your going to get a piece of the pie if you vote for them, your sadly mistaken, they want the whole pie. While I'm here, I could have guessed you where from Texas, you know that large insane asylum
Keep posting the face of GW, saying "Bin Ladin is no longer important to me. He is no longer a security problem". Then why are the Repugs trying to give him credit for what happened under Obama's watch. Waterboarding is a crime! Nothing was learned by it.
